  1. I would like to recommend house site number 1. Many reasons why, as your parents get older it becomes increasingly important to keep an eye on them. Also, when you get older, you can live in the smaller house and one of your kids can look after you at that site.

  2. It already has a driveway and hook ups with an uphill well. So any improvements would also benefit your parents. Asking permission ro cut trees on the neighbors property is a very reasonable, probably easy successful thing.

  3. Solar panels are dependable on Sun…I would go with windmill if they have any wind up there (the wide one with vertical rotator…that kind runs even with small wind), plus buffor for heat storage to heat the house and water that would be powered by energy from the mill/panels and wood furnace/stove .

  4. I was excited to hear the professionals explain the different options. I could barely hear anything they said. There was so much talking over them that the viewers can not understand their advice. I love this 100 day adventure but this episode was disappointing. It’s like they were the guest and we barely learned anything.

  5. Good to see you set goals and limits for your kids so they need to be responsible to reach them before they get something they are working for. Maybe having to know where his shoes are could be part of it. Seems like that's been a struggle for years. Kids are all growing up and becoming great helpers.

  7. I suggest you take another look at your plans for the house you want to build. You might want to modify your plans to include newer techniques, beyond the timber frame. You can use some processes for providing a very well-insulated home that can reduce your energy consumption so that a solar array can provide the energy that you will be using. You might explore building with SIPs or ICF. Our @EastMarshAcres YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe2_sHRd9qcNeyRGwngdldg) shows what we are doing with ICF construction in Canada. We will be heating our new house, in a much colder climate than yours in NC, with the equivalent of a hair dryer embedded in the ground floor (slab on grade). I'm not sure why your consultants are recommending a basement. Is it really needed? By the way, we will be using a passive solar, initially in a net-metering configuration, to off-set our energy usage. So our house will be very close to a Passive Std. and also close to a Net Zero standard. I'd be happy to talk with you about your plans.
