BUDGET vs LUXURY in Sri Lanka – 11 Best Places to Stay!

In today’s episode, I will show you some of the most luxurious places you can stay in Sri Lanka! But as the title states, I will also include economy, and budget stays. So if you don’t fancy spending $500 a night, we have plenty of other beautiful affordable options too, as low as $7 a night! After traveling around to different places in Sri Lanka for 1 month, Jon and I made a list of the 11 best places to stay on this island. Covering all the must-visit places, like the surfing town Weligama, the capital – Colombo, Sigiriya, Kandy, the mountain town Ella, and the coastal city Galle.

I would love to know which accommodation was your favorite? Do you prefer staying in luxury accommodations or is budget travel more your vibe? Let me know in the comment section below!
We definitely love a mix of both β˜€οΈ

  3. Had the great pleasure to stay at three Uga Escapes locations and got to experience so much of Sri Lanka. Uga is not budget but was so good with amazing staff, food and accommodations at all three plus we had our own driver for the whole stay, which I would highly recommend because they do drive kind of crazy there.

  4. This is a good perspective from a person who is not a local and not familiar with any of the cities and towns visited. Just as an example, in Kandy, I would probably never stay at Swiss Residence. If my goal is luxury I will stay at a true full service resort in the hills with a pano view. If my goal is budget I will choose the Queen Anne (maybe $40) or the Old Empire ($15) which are smack on the lake, facing the temple and right in the heart of all the things to do and see in the town. Old Empire still serves up a good American and Sri Lankan breakfast for the lowest prices in town even for non-guests. After a long day of exploring the markets, churches and mosques, it's so nice to be able to walk to your hotel rather than rely on a taxi. From the Queen Anne Hotel you can also get a balcony so that you can watch the street life at night with a glass of wine or with your morning coffee. Videos like this are a reminder that there will never be substitutes for people like Rick Steves who are truly Travel Experts in a specific area. Saying that you stayed in a particular hotel and that it was okay is not quite the same as giving a recommendation and being able to accurately compare it to other options right in the area.

  5. We stayed at Swiss Residence in Kandy, and I have mixed feelings about it. I fondly remember sitting on our balcony at about 3am talking to my family in the US and listening to the amazing nighttime sounds from high above Kandy. I had early morning swims, they opened the pool just for me, and it was so cool and energizing. We really enjoyed our breakfasts there for some reason. One night there was this amazing tour guide with so much energy that got all the Russian tourists up and dancing with him in a conga line… it was very entertaining. We probably will not return to the hotel because the bathroom areas just felt very dingy and the hotel was a little dated an unexciting. The price was perfectly acceptable.

  6. They don't serve locals. Those women don't even let them touch by a local by a mistake but die for a foreigners. Big shame on you and Sri Lanka. The locals are total murderers as I personally experience unlimited hell in this island's day by day life and I apologize that I told somewhat truth to the best of my consciounce and never accept any explanations as you everyone do not 🚫 know what is going on with me. Sorry SRI LANKA… πŸ‘‰βŒπŸ‘Ž
