German army was not so mechanized. There were lot pictures of them using horses to move their supplies.

Very good documentary. But why every 5 min an add presenting stuff I am not interested in. Why? What do I care which 3 or 4 supermarkets as presented in the adds have to offer. With all due respect to the many women interested in these sort of documentaries, men are genuinely not interested in shopping whatsoever. Very very annoying these adds.
Only 5000 came back to Germany alive after Operation Barbarossa. So much for the New World Order in 1943. It was a great Soviet and Allied victory over the "master race" proponents.
A very honest personal account of the war to the point of being brutal at times.

No, when Barbarossa commenced the world was not quiet. They said what an idiot the Austrian corporal is for fighting on two fronts.
This was a great listen for me, a true account of the German assault, warts and all, on Russia. Politics aside this is fascinating.
I say many times……France, Italy and Africa were "Five stars Resorts" compared with the bestiality of the "Eastern Front"….
I never watched it all. But I don't think there was any mention of all the Russian women and children who were raped by advancing German troops. Nation of culture, I think not.
I love the way he is repeatedly offended that the Soviet troops kill some of his comrades, when they are the ones who have invaded the USSR, not the other way around. He really has absolutely no sense of detachment.

I was going to go to bed but and keep watching tomorrow but I ended up glued to the screen the entire time. That was excellent the way you matched the imagery with the voice over and the brief explanations.
Hopefully we'll get a similar documentary on the perspective of a Soviet Red Army soldier.
