  2. I have only driven through Texas and I only stopped to put gas in my car and to watch a thunderstorm that filled the entire horizon, so forgive e if this question sounds dumb but do they sell Cactus Cooler soda in Texas?

  3. I know you were just in Texas but in the new year can you do videos on the other states? When Brits come to the US it's either FL, TX or CA. I understand why but they're are more of us here.

  4. Mrs. H, you are not alone in enjoying Lone Star beer. 'Tis said that when God rested on the seventh day, he took his Airstream out to Big Bend, parked in a campground along the Rio Grande, propped up the awning, and sat in the shade in his folding chair with a cooler full of Lone Star longnecks at his side, watching his little roadrunners and lizards zip around in the sun.

  5. As a kid, I drank Triple X Root Beer in a twelve ounce glass bottle or a Frosty's Root Beer in a sixteen ounce bottle. Now, I get a Cherry Root Beer from Sonic when I drink a soda.

  6. Henry Weinhard's was a local brewery here in Portland, opened in 1908. The building is on the national list of historic places. The company (owned by another now) also make 4 flavors of sodas: root beer, cream soda, orange cream soda, and black cherry cream soda. I used to adore their orange cream soda. (They don't make diet, so I can't drink it anymore. 😱) Jones' black cherry is delicious. Stewart's is another good orange cream, and hallelujah, they make diet! Expensive, though. I just buy whatever diet root beer that's available. 😂 Being diabetic is a pain.

Now, beer… Portland, BTW, was where the US microbrewery craze started. One of our nicknames is Beervana. I never can remember how many independent breweries we have in the city, and then there's all over the state. And in Washington. And… There's a lot of great local beers. I prefer dark, myself. Henry Weinhard's Special Reserve Dark was my favorite, but the dratted big company that bought Henry's brewery stopped making it. Dammit. I like something a little lighter than Guinness. Darker than Guinness, I start thinking I should be chewing it.

You would love one of our beer stores in Portland; Belmont Station, on SE Belmont Street. (Put a hyphen between the two words of the name, and that's their website.) Has a biercafe, too. Their store sells beer, local, US, and international; cider, perry, mead and wine. (OR and WA have great wines, too.) Between the food and beer, you have to come to Oregon some day! Elana would love the Tillamook Cheese Factory on the coast. Their extra sharp cheddar is the Cheese of the Gods. 😂 Plus the scenery is unreal, both here and in Washington. Don't you want to see Mt. St. Helens? In Washington, but a mere 50 or so miles away. I used to watch it erupting after the initial big blast, from the 18th floor of our office building.

  7. Texas has always had its own beer culture because you had so many Germans in the hill country open up breweries back in the late 19th and early 20th century. Local wine and liquor production is more of a recent phenomenon though

  8. I once watched a movie called blast from the past with Brendan frasier. In it his father drinks warm dr pepper. I tried it one time and was pleasantly surprised and thought it would be a nice winter drink.

  9. I only just found out that cream soda got its name because it's supposed to taste like a vanilla ice cream soda in a bottle.
I like birch beer a lot, but like to have ordinary root beer quite often. However, sarsparilla is just out of this world!
I've tried about 10 commercial brands of beer, maybe, imported and domestic, and two home brews. I still can't say anything good.

  10. I grew up in South Africa & have lived here for 54 years & I’ve never gotten used to it! You are right, it is definitely an acquired taste & it certainly has a medicinal taste that I could never get used to! I love cream soda & ginger beer! đŸ„°đŸ˜‚

  11. Of course, if Dr Pepper revealed the full formula on the can, you could just go and make your own knockoff in your bathtub, which wouldn’t be good for business. However, Dr Pepper superfans have done their best to crack the code, and according to Mashed, the best approximation of the flavors is amaretto, almond, blackberry, black licorice, caramel, carrot, clove, cherry, cola, ginger, juniper, lemon, molasses, nutmeg, orange, prune, plum, pepper, root beer, rum, raspberry, tomato, and vanilla. This blend allegedly gives Dr Pepper its flavor—can’t you taste the tomato? And the distinctive pepperiness comes from clove, black licorice, and, of course, pepper itself.
BTW Light beer refers to the amount of Carbohydrates and not alcohol content . I.E. there is no reason to assume lite beer is "lighter in % of alcohol but the lower carbohydrates and calories because of this it could help with Mr. H's bloat problem.

  12. From your big fan (72-year old 4th generation native Texan)…If you ever make a return to my great state of Texas, please try our locally made (Houston) ZiegenBock beer! It's an Amber Bock beer and is very good! Here's my recipe for a Margarita [not frozen & served in a Margarita glass-12oz.(14oz. to the rim)- salted rim optional]:
    1oz. premium tequila
    1oz Cointreau
Fill glass with refrigerated Jose Cuervo Margarita MIX (or other premium Margarita mix if that brand isn't available). This is an example of "you get what you pay for". The premium ingredients make all the difference!

  13. I'm an A&W gal, with Mug as second place. Especially for floats. I can't drink caffeine, so no Barq's for me. I'm allergic to hops, too, but I hate beer, so that's okay. Did all these beverages leave you going "wee wee" all the way home?
