  1. Different countries have different rules. An American solider can refuse an order if it could be considered a war crime. I imagine the same would be true of refusing an order that could put civilians in danger but can't say for sure on that one.

  2. #OBDaz Unfortunately, this is the mentality of many countries that were union republics of the USSR until 1991. Not paying attention to technical defects., hiding technical problems, insistence on putting on a show, regardless of the price. The same applies to compensation for victims and the convicted airman. 🤷‍♂🤷‍♂

  3. Unquestioning obedience to orders and poor advanced preparations was a feature of the Soviet military that was inherited by both the Ukrainian and Russian military forces after the fall of the Soviet Union. I remember in the 1968 Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia to crush the "Prague Spring." Unclear directions were given to some of the invading troops along with inadequate or no maps at all. Troops got hopelessly lost among many different Czech roads and some almost inadvertently drove their tanks across the border into Austria. The apparent invasion of a neutral country would have certainly caused a major international incident and would have been completely due to the poor preparation the troops got.

  4. I've seen some raw video that was filmed literally seconds after the crash. It's beyond disturbing, and I've commented on another page that it's one of the few videos I wish I'd never seen. I won't go into too many details here, but there were random body parts, dead children being cradled by their weeping parents, any hellish sight you can think of just scattered about. Over a decade after seeing the video, I'm still haunted by it. I can't begin to imagine what it's like for those who were there.

  5. I think you're wrong about the pilot. He was in the military NOT civilian and he was following orders. It IS different when it is military. He would face far worse if he disobeyed. It's not really 'western' military either where they might go easy on you given the circumstance.

  6. During the Seattle Seafair Hydroplane Races in August the Blue Angels arrive on Monday to start to practice for Fri – Sunday Races 1which they fly between each heat . They shut down I-90 and Hwy 520 bridges crossing the lake and no boats in center of their pathway during practice and the races , I know I been hung up in traffic.

  7. You don't get to choose whether you carry out an order or not based on whether or not it's related to a war. The person who ordered the pilots to continue take the responsibility for having made that decision and ordered the pilots to behave in the way specified.

Not only do military jets harm the environment and waste billions that could help in more needed places. They often cost human lives again and again. It's a shame that people haven't learned anything from the most famous air show disaster at the Ramstein US Airbase in 1988, where 70 people died.
