  1. Finland and Sweden has been working VERY close together for YEARS now, so i don't think it will be any issues at all to combine our forces! All of us are kinda specialized at different things so i believe it would only make us stronger in the long run! I know Sweden and Finland has a similar agreement in regards to our Navy's aswell.

  2. As a Swede I'm kind of disappointed in the other Nordic countries. I think that Norway, Denmark and Finland should have chosen their brothers, fighter jet Gripen.
We could all be flying a Nordic made fighter aircraft. Maybe they are a bit jealous of their big brother Sweden that can build such an aircraft.
They should have supported us, instead of bending over for America xD.
We could have been flying the same system together and helped each other with everything surrounding the airplane.
The Gripen is perfect for protecting the small Nordic countries, because that is what it is created for.

  3. Nordic airforce will not only rival the largest nation in europe, but be the largest single airforce comand in europe.. including the russian one (in order of operational strength, not number of aircraft's)

  4. The big thing is that, Nordic countries military is united in a single comand of NATOs northern flank!
Our militay supose to be experts on sub arctic warfare and in the Baltic sea!
Its this.. NATOs northern flank is quite secure??

  5. Another thing the Swedish airforce bring to the table that even a country like the UK have a lack of is airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft.
Sweden have several ones made by Saab and have another bunch on order.

  6. The whole premises for the video is just straight up wrong. Common defence planning sure, but that's far away from anything resembling a unified air force.
Tempting to blame the misunderstanding on the mistranslation of a quote from a Danish General that made the rounds in the online "news media", but anyone who thinks it's even possible for a sovereign nation is willingly give up it's own military freedom of action must have been raised on a different planet than this one.

  7. Hmm.. There are a few incorrect details in this clip, like for exemple Sweden presently officially operates 96 Gripen C/D airframes, not 70.. Norway & Denmark are going for 52 & 27 F-35 arframes respectively, but since they do their training in the US, Norway will actually only have 48 airframes in country. How many Danish F-35's will be tied up in the US, I'm not sure.. hopefully less than 4..๐Ÿฅด As far as I'm aware, Finland has not dedicated any of it's airframes to be used in the US.. Sweden meanwhile, tends to keep it's operational airframes in country, if not deployed somewhere. There's a decision in place to increase the number of operational airframes to 120. This decision was made about 1year before Russias full scale attack on Ukraine. It wouldn't be very suprising if that number is raised further, considering the circumstances..๐Ÿคจ Gripen E is presently in producton, & it would be relatively easy to increase the number of ordered airframes. The Gripen fleet is presently planned to consist ofa mix of Gripen C/D's & E's. A very large update to the C/D fleets avionics, engines etc, to make integration between the platforms easier. Sweden has also decided to use "excess" Gripen C/D's as their fast jet trainer aircraft. Ofcourse, that would make it rather easy to "reflag" the trainers as operational airfraimes if needed. Something that is barely mentioned inths clip is the non-fighter part of these airforces. Norway for exemple, has a fleet of 5 P8-Orion ASW aircraft. & Sweden presently has 2 Erieye 340's (to be replaced with 2 Globaleye in 2027, they are presently being built, & there's an option for an additional 2 units under the exixtng contract.) Further, Swedenhas some dedicated signals intelligence aircraft aswell, think it's 2 presenty.. While these airforces have had extensive cooperation for years now, including cross border training, operating as single airforce will obviusly enable big benefits, especially since it will allow all to benefit from the AWACs & intelligence platforms.. Also, the F-35's & Gripens as platforms have some complementary abilities, that should allow for very efficient use, if implemented wisely..๐Ÿค”๐Ÿง

  8. I am extremely happy and proud that we now belong to the world's best guarantee for peace and stability. I can't help but toy with the idea of โ€‹โ€‹Canada deciding to acquire the Jas-39 Gripen. So incredibly much easier it would be to make the F-plane's and Gripen's systems compatible. The reason why the Gripen would be perfect is that I think the Gripen was made for Russia's war against Ukraine. If you could work the systems together, I see a monster to face as an opponent. Instead of showing off the Gripen under Red Flag, the possibilities to train together with the USA-made ones would be unlimited. / Adam Stockholm

  9. I recomend watching the Danish documentary about Danish soldiers in afghanistan called "min krig"(My war). It shows them figthing with the brits and it also has english subtitles. you can find it on Youtube.

The series has 4 seperate parts covering danish contingents to Helmand province and specificaly Spin Masjed. Part 3 and 4 is where they cooperate with the British. The entire series is filmed by the Danish soldiers own helmet cams.

  10. JAS 39 compared to F35: Less than USD 5.000/ooerating hour to 30.000/h. JAS turns around within 10 minutes with an A2A configuration, with one employed technician and 5 conscripts on a road base in the middle of nowhere. F35… not disclosed for some reason. JAS 39 Gripen E, a 4.5++ gen fighter with a fleet combined situation awareness (including SAAB Globaleye) at least as good as F35 will therefore have number superiority and can sustain thanks to costs and the dispersed airbase philosophy. The Gripen E has top class jamming systems that makes the already small radar cross section area even smaller. It is the lure that's in the water that catches the most fish.

  11. Norway and Denmark are donating some of their F-16s to Ukraine, which I think is awesome. F-35 is probably a great aircraft. One thing SWE AF has, which the others currently lack is AEW&C Aircraft, these have been flying quite extensivley along the Ukrainian border during the war, gathering some kind of intel(or whatever it is they do), as has similiar aircraft from other countries, among those e.g The UK. New ones have been ordered and are being developed now as well, called Globaleye.

    Have a good weekend!

  12. Kudos for the Nordic Alliance! the EU members should reconsider why there's no EU Navy, Army nor Air Force… We have to put our eyes on this 4 countries and drop the BS of who's bigger, richer, or other …er. Reality is what it is and European Union Countries need to be up to it.

  13. A soldier on the front line can sent a signal to an F-35 in the area that automatically routes it to distant, long range precision artillery like a HIMARS that will then fire on the target the soldier is designating. Instantly

  14. I read a recent news article about this in a Swedish paper, and apparently their biggest problem right now is trying to decide if everyone should speak their own language on the ground, or if they should all use English, which is what is exclusively used in the air. As far as problems go, that's a pretty minor one to have.

  15. An EXCELLENT development and one that's fully compatible with continued observation by the nations concerned, of the primacy of NATO (and in this case, NATO's vital "European Pillar"). The NATO alliance being the ONLY overarching structure under which ALL individual member allies, all European ones included, should operate w.r.t. the collective defence of their common security.

NOT the repugnant EU central institution and EUrocracy infesting Brussels that, as just one part of its broader EUro-federalist obsession and with self-serving French and perhaps German backing, is still attempting to subvert and supplant NATO in Europe.

  16. Hm…are the Nordics planning for a huge war I wonder?
Just saw how populations in the Nordics are now being prepared for exactly that – war!?
Who are you going to kill this time Nordics? All of us maybe?

  17. You mentioned the AK47 action on the Finnish M62 rifle. ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ฎ makes The Brst AK actions; even the original Israeli Galils were based on a ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ฎ AK action! ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ฎ works on the basis of using weapons for which Russia would bring the ammo IF they attack; clever buggers ! NATO will change this but AK47 & 74 ammo is already NATO secondary standard.

  18. Two things that should be mentioned regarding Sweden
1/ They have ordered 60 E/F models and will retain some 35-45 C/D versions, so the airforce fighter size will be in the 100 range. The Gripen will also better be able to have dispersed operations compared to the F-35, however the F-35 have other advantages.
2/ Sweden operates the airborne Eireye(like the E-2C) AWACS plattform and have ordered 2 new Global eye aircraft, similar to the E-2D version. They are also looking at ordering 2 more but no decision yet. None of the other Nordic countries have anything similar

  19. The F35 and the Gripen compliments each other very well.
The F35 needs safe bases to operate from while the Gripen can operate on makeshift runways closer to the frontlines, allowing it to intercept attacks against the F35 bases.
While the F35 being stealthy can operate over enemy territory to some degree as well as helping making the enemy unsure if attacking the Gripens in the air is safe as it could potentially be in the air somewhere without being detected.

The Gripen doesn't rely on stealth but instead makes it look like there's multiple fighters there in place of just one and like they're in different locations from the real fighter further making the enemy confused.

The Gripen and F35 also both communicate well together and can carry modern deadly missiles and all have excellent sensors.

  20. Finally! With nato it's the first time for 500 years we have a nordic unified defence. This outside nato agreement should be done for all defence, not only air force.

  21. As a Finn I'm super proud about all of our Nordic co-operation as societies.
Many times I feel that Iceland is forgotten, but they are Nordic too. I've been there twice and it was like being home as a society. Like in any Nordic nation.

  22. The unified airforce is NOT a new airforce command that takes over from the normal national airforce comma ds, for example, Sweden is not shutting down and others, this is only used for joint operations and nothing else.
