Thanksgiving Livestream with Vicki (James' Mum) on friday – https://youtube.com/live/ff4iC5EvI5g?feature=share
Inject butter under the turkeys skin.
Happy Thanksgiving, Beesley Family! Your meal looks absolutely delicious!
There would be plenty to do with just a Tennessee area trip. There is Nashville, Chattanooga is worth a visit, then if you go in the fall there is Knoxville and a University of Tennessee game, plus Smokey Mountains National Park
There is no "wrong" for Thanksgiving. Whatever you and your family love – that's it! It's about getting together!
James' mom is the best.
Such a feast to say the least!
It started at the Grand old Oprey then moved.
STRONGLY suggest getting a "beginner" smoker that is electric (still for outside) w/ a place to put pellets, or wood chips for the smoker, strongly suggest Mesquite, hickory, apple, oak & pecan.
Vicky, I love the idea of seeing YOUR foods, (especially your "favorites, Jame's faves as a kid/adult, Millie's faves, Your hubby's faves. I know for myself; I love seeing YOUR foods/customs as well as your reactions to OUR foods.
I also love the idea of the WWII diaries, please feel free to omit parts too private to share.
Also hit Pidgeon Forge TN if you do Nashville & Chattanooga. (Also Dollywood).
On the "desserts". We tend to eat the sweet potato casserole w/ dinner, not as a 'dessert'. BUT tho the marshmallow one is rather popular, imo, the one w/ honey or brown sugar and pecans is the better 'version' (esp for w/ dinner). Encourage you to give it a try.
Only other comments… our family doesn't really think it's Thanksgiving w/o these items: Turkey (of course), dressing/stuffing, sweet potato something (casserole, candied, w/honey butter cinnamon, pie, etc). Pumpkin something, (roll, pie, soup etc…) deviled eggs (mandatory w/ a little sweetened vinegar 1/2 vinegar, 1/2 sugar maybe 3/4 vinegar, 1/ 4 sugar), corn something (kernals cut off the cob, casserole, etc.) green bean something again, cooked in pot w/ butter, salt/pepper, casserole w/ mushrooms soup & deep fried onions, etc… Green fluff, something cranberry & something w/ reg potatoes, typically mashed as you did.
We try to not do both corn pudding/casserole and Sweet potato casserole and green bean casserole… but make one of the 3 'plain' (just salt/pepper/butter – (honey or brown sugar if candied sweet potatoes), then one as a casserole, and the other either plain or a casserole or some other twist.
Today it's pumpkin pie and Pecan Pie. I know mom made deviled eggs, Green fluff & pecan Pie to take (visiting w/ a friend of hers today since we are not really feeling festive, since Gram Passed this September & we just closed on her house Tuesday) not 100% what else today…<shrugs>
Great video, great job Vicky & Millie. You too James, even tho… you just ate & opinionated π (And presumably did editing, camera set up etc… π
Ms. V, I am one again astounded by all the work you put into the cooking in these videos. You've truly outdone yourself!
If you don't already, James, can we have links to the recipes (for those used)? There are several things on your table we don't have on ours, but I'd love to add them at some point.
The sweet potatoes should be closer to mashed potatoes consistency (soul food perspective )
Looks yummy but I don't recognize most of what's on the table. Turkey and sweet potato casserole, which should be eaten as dinner, not dessert, is about all that's familiar. You need pumpkin pie, sweet potato pie or pecan pie for dessert.
The whole family is good-looking, and the little boy is adorable and so cute.
Happy Thanksgiving. Well done! Your kitchen is very neat for having made such a big meal. Pumpkin pie just out, now I have my turkey, stuffing, squash, green bean casserole and corn pudding in the oven. Believe me, my kitchen doesn't look that good right now!
Here in America, the meat and sides are representative of the early foods available here in the New World. Wild turkey, squash/pumpkin, beans, corn, wild cranberries.
Well done, Mama Vicki! Everything looked delicious. Sweet potato casserole, oddly enough, is part of the meal, not a dessert. But of course it can be eaten at any time. Thank you for sharing your meal with us! π₯°
Happy THANKSGIVING! The meal looks great.
As a HUGE history and WW2 nerd, I would just love to hear more about your ancestors and hear some of the letters.
OK, so I'm autistic, and NOT really technologically savvy, but I think that maybe the internet content you [currently] have access to is leaning too far toward 'British' to steer you in the right direction for 'American-centric' recipes. I know you're researching the best you can, but you might need "Internet-Across-the-Globe access" somehow, that would make your searches more accurate. Although you've created a lovely mash-up between your dishes and ours, which is a common practice for many mixed-culture families in the U.S. I love that y'all are trying so hard to experience our culture. Keep being amazing!
To each their own but to me it's so odd that the sweet potato cassorele is eaten as dessert here instead of a side. lol If was sweet potato pie would be dessert but this is a side! lol
As an American, I kinda wish we started making Yorkshire puddings. That would definitely go well with our gravy.
Happy Thanksgiving to our friends across the pond. Have a wonderful day!
It looks very good β€β€β€β€β€β€β€β€β€
Great job!!
Not all recipes for sweet potato casserole have marshmallows on top. My family makes ours with pecans and brown sugar as the topping.
Gravy became a big part of my family's Thanksgiving because the turkey was always so dry. Pouring gravy on the turkey made it worth eating. But having turkey left over for sandwiches the next day is a plus of not eating all the turkey on Thanksgiving.
Next time, try the sweet potato casserole with the meal. In my house, it is not a dessert.
A great thing about Thanksgiving meals is how they have changed as different cultures and foods were introduced to the day.
FYI, the sweet potato casserole is served with the main. Apple, Pecan, Sweet Potato or Pumpkin Pie is served as dessert.
James, Millie, and Mom Beesley,
Happy Thanksgiving, your ham looks similar to the US Smithfield brand ham.Nashville, and Chattanooga are both in Tennessee, and go to Gatlinburg Tennessee to the midnight Moon distillery.
We also have a week before thatβs called Friendsgiving. Iβm in Pennsylvania on my table we do stuffing, yams, mash potatoes, green beans with French cut style green beans, and bake corn soufflΓ© with John copes corn which you can only get in Pennsylvania
Happy Thanksgiving day! β€ and blessings from Southern California. πΊπ²
That's not an American dinner. Turkey is the only American food on that table. Sweet potato casserole isn't dessert.
Having a hard time understanding…y'all talk so fast! lol What is that roast you keep calling glazed Gamon? What is gamon in American english? Ham?
I am confused. Are you saying Jersey or Gurnsey?
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! Wonderful job on the dinner Mum.
we always has yorkshire puddings
Don't forget to watch the Thanksgiving parade
Happy thanksgiving π¦π
Nashville and Chattanooga are both in Tennessee. They are just over 132 miles apart.
You done fine Miss Vickie, looks scrumptious. You could be a Southern Gal.The Grand ol Opry started in the Ryman then they built the Opry House and moved there. There is a piece of the Ryman stage built into the stage in Opry House.
As to your trip back to America, you might be able to swing all three, Tennessee, Florida and Louisiana. Or just do TN and LA and save Florida for another time so you can hit Georgia in the same trip. Then a third trip up north to the New England states for the fall colors. Wonderful thanksgiving meal and a great video π¦
Happy Thanksgiving , Beesley family!
I saw you posted this yesterday, but I wanted to watch on actual Thanksgivings Day. Sorry for the delay responds.
Sweet potato casserole has never been a dessert as far as anyone I know!πbut,BRAVO ππΌππΌππΌ to mom for preparing such a wonderful meal β£οΈ
Lol. "Definitely a dessert". Americans: "Nope!"
Just a suggestion – it's not a culinary requirement to put marshmallows on sweet potato casserole – that was an advertising scam we had over here. One suggestion – you can share some of those dishes with close friends/family, then next year invite them to come over to your place and bring one of the dishes with them to share with the crowd. (It makes it more cooperative and saves on your workload.) Oh – and you're in "Old" Jersey, right? Next time you visit here, why not come have a look at New Jersey (he's grinning)?
Loving that youβve done it, but I really wish you would join us anywhere in the US. We go over the top, and it depends family by family ham or turkey, meatloaf or chicken, etc. It is family and harvest; we gather together and give thanks for our blessings.
What is "gammon roast"?
Oh! It's Ham!
One of the things I have noticed with these YouTuber videos is that, similar to Your New Zealand family channel, is even when family is involved, if the star, as it were, of the show gets interrupted by another member of the family, for example, in this video, there is talk over and/or annoyance with the talking happening over the person who is considered less important. Watch this video and see how he interrupts the lady just outright and in a way that just totally talks over her. This is not a coincidence. This is just fucking ego.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone, From The United States Of America ππ¦πΊπΈ
Happy Thanksgiving! We are all very thankful of your channel and the work you guys put into it! π¦ππ
I would LOVE to see how your mum makes chutney. I've only seen it in video games and I have no idea what it really is. Would love to make and try it myself one day!
Why this woman doesn't have her own cooking channel is beyond me – she always prepares the most delicious looking food!
