As a former crew member, pictures cant communicate the size. Even after four years id be surprised if I'd seen a quarter of the ship
Most carriers weigh over 100,000 tons. The carrier is able to float on water bc the bottom of the ship, the hull, is designed to displace a large amount of water. The volume of water that the ship displaces weighs more than the weight of the entire ship herself.

30 knots is 34-mph or 55-kph 1 knot is equal to 1.15mph so just add 15% more than the knots and youll have the land speed i.e 100 knots + 15% is 115mph
I was working down in the Philadelphia Navy Yard last week and got to see the USS JFK as it slowly rots away.
In warmer waters, the temperature drops dramatically after a certain depth. This is called the thermocline or thermal layer, and it has dramatic effects on sonar. Modern submarines can and have used this to their advantage to sneak up on surface units. In fact, in a 2005 war game, combined with its super quiet engine, Swedish diesel sub was able to use the thermal layer to sneak up and sink the USS Ronald Reagan. Which is where the helicopters come in. The helicopters are equipped with special dipping sonars which it uses to extend and detect submarines past the thermal layer.

Veterans, carries are name after people, battles or enterprise which is neither but a starship, battleships name after state's uss Arizona and uss Missouri. Cruiser and destroyers name are more flexible Ex Uss Kidd USS stenoius name after senator that served in military not always navy.

My son retired from the navy nuclear division. His job was building the nuclear power plants in the ships. His 29 year service he built 3 ships. His last one was the bush.
What is impressive is their anchor chain. Each rung of steel is as wide as both my thighs together. I was in awe when I took a walk around on the CV74 John Stennis. They whole ship is huge.

ISN'T SHE BEAUTIFUL???? I LOVE THIS AIRCRAFT CARRIER AND MY DAD WAS IN THE NAVY FOR 26 YEARS AND WHEN MY EX-HUSBAND WAS IN THE MARINES AND WE WERE STATIONED OVER IN KANEOHE BAY MARINE CORPS AIR STATION, & YES IT WAS BOMBED IN 1941 AS WELL AS PEARL HARBOR & Hickam in Schofield barracks which were Army barracks at the time but Hickam eventually became an Air Force Base.
On weekends I would love to ride over to Pearl Harbor at night and just sit in the harbor and drink my McDonald's milkshake and watch the nuclear subs come in and just sit there and watch the battleships because I loved seeing them docked there when they were not out on deployment.
Other ships of all kinds would come in and refuel & the sailors would get a couple days break in Pearl Harbor. If they had a car they could go visit wherever they wanted in Hawaii but they could do a lot in 3 days.
I loved being over at hickam Air Force Base to play putt-putt and to see the air shows every year and Pearl Harbor was my place to go at night time to chill out relax and just watch ships sitting in port

THIS IS WHY AFTER WORLD WAR II THE USA TOLD BRITAIN THEY COULD HAVE AS BIG AND HEAVY AS THEY WANTED BUT THE USA WOULD DO BETTER AS A NAVY FORTRESS FOR BOTH COUNTRIES… IT'S WORKED OUT BETTER BECAUSE WE HAVE MORE SPACES TO BUILD SHIPS AND KEEP THEM SAFE AND WE ALSO MAKE MORE MONEY . WORKING PEOPLE MAKE MONEY AND GET TAXED SO ALL OF THIS GOES TO PROVIDE A MILITARY THAT'S BIG AND A HUGE NAVY FOR AMERICA BUT IT'S ALSO BEEN PART OF THE JOINT BRITISH US NAVY..
EVERYTHING OF COURSE IS AMERICA'S BUT IT WAS A DECISION AFTER WORLD WAR II FOR THE USA TO HAVE THE SIZE OF NAVY THAT WAS THE SIZE OF AMERICAN MONSTERS NAVY POST-WAR TIME BUT ALSO THE SAME CAPABILITY OR STRONGER OF THAT OF THE BRITISH DURING IN PRIOR TO WORLD 2..
