I’m from the era of watching the Vietnam war on the nightly news. The most sickening phrase I heard General Abrams (Vietnam era general) make was “You have to break a few eggs to make an omelette,” meaning lots of the military need to die to win a war.
Politicians need donations to win elections. Military contractors have deep pockets & want thir pols to get DOD contracts for them. Pols get votes for bringing those jobs to their districts. Pols & Military contractors have no incentive to end a war. Doesn't matter who wins, just keep buying those weapons.
Typical US government Against the American people and soldiers but never are themselves offering to put their own life or families life on the front lines.
Democrats are always working with the enemy.

The politicians are pretty much all corrupt and receive money from corporations. And a lot of those corporations produce military equipment and aircraft which they want to sell more and more of and suck up our tax dollars. That is why wars never seemed to end, that should help you understand what is so screwed up.

If you want to see how the fight happened, the History channel had a show called Dogfights that covered Operation Bolo. I think it was second episode of the first season. The footage of the jet maneuvers in this guy's video are taken directly from that episode. The actual episode covers the entire operation like that.
This was during the cold war era, any military action could become political real fast.

Dude! Let me make this abundantly clear. We elect stupid people! We're dumb. We don't even know how dumb until something like this happens; even then it's iffy. Amongst the US population there are experts in every field of science, technology, engineering, and math. We still chose to elect nothing but lawyers based on a popularity contest election system, give them the keys to the kingdom, dust off our hands, and pat ourselves on the back for a job well done. Then we go sit on the couch and transform back into cabbages all while taking credit for the accomplishments of people smarter and more talented than us and complain about the inevitable mess. Ah, democracy.
Edit for addendum: It takes an unfixable mess for most of the doofuses in charge to actually consult an expert on anything. That's usually about the time things turn around. Then we don't f**k around about fixing it, even if that requires brutal infighting.
