Brexit two years later: Why the UK is struggling | DW News

Almost two years since Britain completed its withdrawal from the European Union, and the UK is still struggling with the fall-out. Promised economic gains have failed to materialize. Britain has missed out on much of the recovery in global trade since the pandemic. And the loss of EU workers has worsened labor shortages in healthcare, hospitality and agriculture. Businesses are also facing higher costs and more red-tape.

  1. DW would u kindly remember that Brexit is an English decision Scotland voted to stay in the EU but can’t because our English overlords dragged us out please come to Scotland and ask the Scottish people and you will find out Scotland wants its Independence so we can hopefully rejoin and share our energy and oil with EU instead of it been stolen from us by England help show the world what Scotland is no British it’s Scottish

  2. EU got salty about it because they are a bunch of bureaucrats who love controlling foreign nations and were on the cusp of losing one of the most influential members and did everything they could to make it difficult, making sure we got the worse end of the deal. The west is supposed to be all on one side, this showed otherwise.

  3. It is temporarily struggling. Keep confidence. Why support and actively promote an enlargement of the EU with Eastern and Central European countries? It is far too costly and it jeopardizes a good relationship aswel as bilateral ties with Russia. The EU cannot survive without Russian crude oil, natural gas and raw materials. The EU will turn into a second Soviet Union. As culture differences between the member states will be increasingly visible on policymaking and decision making.

  6. The EU and especially germany are in just as bad if not worse state, lol.
Some serious attempts at deflection by DW here.
It would be funny if it wasn't so deceitful.

  7. The UK economy grew by 4.4% in 2022, the greatest of the G7.
By contrast, Germany grew by 1.77% in 2022.
So that's two years in a row the UK grew the most in the G7.
Sorry, the DW is spreading lies.
Brexit is a work in progress, but no disaster like most on here would hope.

  8. £7 mil/day for ilegal immigrants and asylum seekers on hotel accommodation and allowances, that's well done, you have your country back. UK residents freezing in their home and on the streets because of the cost of living, rail, airports, hospital, police, NHS, post-office on strike… bring back the bright red bus with £320 billion savings after brexit. All lies, enjoy being a 3rd world country now😘

  9. Where are all the politicians who advocated for Brexit?

But the people deserve the people they vote for and the dire situation they are currently in.

  11. Remember less than 38% of the voters actually voted for Brexit, 28% of voters didn't vote at all. With the current sentiment the support would now be below the 28% non voters. It has never been the will of the people…!!!

  12. Once great philosophier Allama Iqbal said:
"jamhūriyat ik tarz-e-hukūmat hai ki jis meñ (Democracy is a type of system in which)

bandoñ ko ginā karte haiñ taulā nahīñ karte (People are counted not get weighted)"
This perfectly describe what happend in Brexit Referendum 🙂

  13. You can argue all you want the whole issue is piss poor management by both governments! both are really one cartel! you cannot tell me that deals cannot be made in a timely manner? in a nutshell, we could have said ok we've left the EU but all trade agreements stand unless we say otherwise. We joined A COMMON market for free trade and not to be governed by Brussels.
