Breaking the Mold: 3 Unloved Horror Sequels That Shine

Sequels, especially horror sequels, tend to get a bad rap. But, like anything with enough time behind it, many deserve a second look. So today on Joblo Horror, we’re picking three different sequels that may not hit as hard as their originals but offer more than they get credit for. Today we discuss Warlock 2, Hellraiser Bloodline and Gremlins 2!

  1. I just don't like that because someone didn't like what they saw, that they make it out to be that no one likes it, and if you do; there must be something wrong with you. That's ridiculously stupid. It's about your tastes and what you seek from your entertainment. I liked all of these Sequels.

  2. My funny story about "Gremlins 2" is that I, my dad and my nephew went to see it and while we were watching it the film actually broke. Everyone got vouchers to come back the next night and watch it again.

We did that and when the movie got to the scene where the gremlins break the filmstrip in the movie everyone thought it was real and reacted with groans. πŸ™‚

  3. Hellraiser 4 isn't just bad because Weinstein futzed with it. It's bad because it's poorly written, badly directed, weakly plotted and dreadfully acted. There's a few interesting ideas swirling around in its messy soup, but none can escape Kevin Yeahger's clumsy framing and inability to draw competent performances from even some genuinely adept actors.

  4. Warlock is the best Castlevania movie we never got. It's Castlevania meets Terminator. Julian Sands was the man and a total badass climbing mountains in his old(er) age. Love Warlock 1 and to a slightly lesser extend part 2.

  5. I obsessed over Gremlins as a kid after my first viewing one Christmas. Then I found out there was a sequel and I got it as a gift the following Christmas. I have been a bigger fan of Gremlins 2 ever since. To this day I still have people say "Really?!" when I tell them I love the sequel more. I've always found it to be a more entertaining movie. Watching it as an adult, it holds up much better than the first.

  6. What I dont get about warlock 2: if you have to die, why die slowly and painfully from a stomach wound. Id be all shoot me in the head bro. Lights out. Reset button. Quick and painless.

  7. I absolutely love Warlock The Armageddon. Just recently bought it from out of country just to watch it again. I gotta say I did enjoy it more as a kid though. However, I regret nothing as it is. Good review and keep up the great work.

  8. My favorite fact about Bloodline is that it was released on home video by Disney Home Video. And now that Miramax is owned by Disney, that makes Angelique a Disney Princess. πŸ˜€

Also, the twins that played the security guards, Dave and Jim Schuelke, today enjoy a successful YouTube channel chronicling their plumbing adventures in the greater L.A. area.

  9. Gremlins 2 is unloved? 😢😐😱 that is a crime!
I respect it for not playing it safe, Joe Dante took the risk of going big, going full camp, full cheese and full bonkers and gives zero Fs, zero apologies. Like any self respecting gremlin would.
    So bold and enjoyable.
    Thanks Lance!

  10. As I'm watching this I'm still laughing at Gremlins2, that talking Gremlin is a riot and still charismatic πŸ™‚
Even when I was a kid I loved it, it was so fun and nutty. And it is still dark, that mouse trap in that assistant's sandwich is still so OOOF.
As a big Gizmo fan and collector I was just happy to get more Mogwai cuteness, Gremlins mayhem and Gizmo epicness, like taking down that gremlin spider hybrid since I am a big scaredy of spiders.

  11. Such awesome film scores by Jerry Goldsmith("Gremlins 2: The New Batch", even makes a cameo), Mark McKenzie (Warlock: The Armageddon) and Daniel Licht("Hellraiser: Bloodline").
