That sad and deseption music background was awesome 👌
lol the soundtrack was perfect 👍
Well, sometimes fails happen, they are part of life. I once over tightened a nut that secured the lower legs on a fork, I wrecked that fork. I chalk it up as the cost of education. If it makes you feel better, your brakes cost less than the fork I ruined…
17:16 LMFAO
Wow size 14??? Tick, you better behave yourself around Wolfman, you don't want his foot up your …. uh, back side. Your lucky he just smacked ya.
Shimano levers work well with Meroca M4 calipers, a big improvement over Shimano dual piston calipers. Treat this as an opportunity not a failure.
Looking forward to the next gt laguna and aggressor pro updates i couldn't find your email so ill list what ive been doing on my old gt ricochet for my son 12.5" frame 26" wheels stripped it all down resprayed ford monza blue , 10 speed ltwoo shifter and deralliuer 1 by purple jgbike 34t oval chain ring hollow tech 1 crank, sram 11 speed chain works perfect with the 10 speed setup, spank 24" rear wheel 26" mavic front schwalbe black jack tyres, rear disc break, purple wake stem, purple grips and thanks to watching your videos purple race face chester pedals thanks for the excellent content man #Wolfticknation. and dose any body have or know where i can get a short crank 150 to 160mm the steel one pice square taper is rubbish and cant go 1 by so had to stick with 170mm old type shimano hollow tech bit worried about pedal strikes thanks
Wow I’ve never seen a tire do that from the intro,I’ve even pumped tires to 50psi to seat the bead before without popping off
That hard headed ram , is the ram from South Park .
It's official YOUR ON CRACK 🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣😂😂 Tick is all flexed up trying his hardest to snap the handle off the screwdriver, all goes quiet, Wolfman reacts, what did you do, Tick, I was real careful I hardly touched it 🤣🤣😂😂🤣what if you re-tap a M5 thread in there and put a M5 screw in place
Also look at the fluid, the cheaper ones get hot quick and the brakes fade, a racing brake fluid can handle a much higher temperature before loosing stopping power
That pump is the noisiest pump I've heard. Click click.
9:16 I am not surprised the threads stripped, I've had threads strip on their own just by using the brakes. That was on m615, m396. Bolts stripped during use, resulting in leak. Maybe these brakes have a similar issue. Soft aluminium flex in brake lever body, bolt grinding away the threads. I don't know. Some chepa brake use cast aluminium which is weaker. But to strip a bolt on a brake requires alot of force, you should just turn until it stops. So to me it looks like the threads were already ruined when you tried to screw the bolt in. But these brakes had a gasket, a plate on top, and then plastic cover, and bolts securing the cover, threads in the master cylinder.
But M6000 did not have that just had a bleed port at the top. No stripped threads there. But awful flexy body, bad mount. Now I have Formula Cura 4.
12:33 23mm is on the limit of 2.6, 30mm would be great, 23mm makes the tyre tall, so with a mudguard there will be just enough room, or might not be depending on the fork, frame.
Touché another good show boys . . .
I've found out over the years that you can't be as heavy handed on bike parts as you can with auto parts. Hopefully you will have a replacement soon. I often ride with Oofos and Crocs. We live on the Northeast Cape Fear River and only 30 minutes from the beach. I bought my first pair of Alfton Cooper flat pedal shoes in December. They are much better for riding at the bike parks. Great video as usual guys!
lessoned learned….. hopefully. You dont have to crank it down like superman
As soon as I saw how hard you were tightening the screw plug at the lever I was screaming at the screen that you're tightening it way too much. I think 1.5 NM is the max.
What can’t you just drill and tap it?
Purchased the fork recently – rockshox Judy gold… something like that. Brakes next month, most likely Tektro 4 pots, 180 mm rotors.
Note that I resemble Mr. Wolf, minus the facial hair, and I’m mostly bald, rather than white hair. Not sure about the age similarity. I’m 62.
I also have large feet, though not quite size 14. (11 – 12, depending on brand)
Dude things happen. Bigger things in life to worry about.
Bummer.. I know how you feel brother I once stripped out the bowl of my bong… Sad.. but it's good to see you wear the helmet during mail time. Safety first…
Stay frosty brother..
i have this one neat trick to avoid stripping the threads and also to perfectly seat the thread of the screw to the threads of the hole: put the screw on the hole, push very lightly and slowly do a unscrew method and slowly turn(lefty-loosey) until the screw makes a "light thud" or a "thud" feel like it seated perfect on the threads. you'll know that its perfectly seated cuz there is almost no resistance when you screw it in. like this comment if it works. comment if you have any corrections from my suggestion. enjoy!
If you stripped the bleed port threads using too large of a bleed port syringe adapter, swing by your LBS or ace hardware and see if they have a larger bleed port screw. Chase the new threads with the proper tap and all will be good for the larger screw and adapter. You just have to remember left lever is no longer the same as the right.
Finding new levers, lately, is like finding 20-year-old virgins in a singles bar, or me trying to ride 30 miles across the Mojave in two days.
My breaks are soft but I like it because i don't like them be able to lock up.
why did u do that if you popped the piston out oil leaks out lol 🙁
little to hard of a pull:(
The primary cause of brake fade is heat. This is why Shimano XT/R brake pads have heat sinks that stick out of the top of the calipers. Lower budget brakes are intended for "casual" use by an average rider. The average rider isn't riding black diamond down hills. Where their brakes are in constant use. Hell even my G2 RSC brakes with 200mm rotors start to fade after about a mile and a half of steep downhill. As for the fail, at least it wasn't on an expensive brake. Remember always start threads with your fingers. Never start threading with a tool.
What's your favorite helmet when you ride? I'm almost finished my Axum DP build. Now I need a cool, safe helmet.
Can you try the koozer xf2046 wheelset and are they tubeless compatible?
I am not sure what you meant with being able to feel the rotor being a floating rotor. is it in terms of temperature?
Tip for budget break bleed Citroën lhm hydrolic mineral oil 10x cheaper unless anybody knows a good reason not to use it thats what in going for 1st time bleeding
Did y’all ever make a video with the ascension with the upgraded forks?? If not I wanna see how she does with the new forks!!
Yea i had a problem bleeding the shimano and i ended up ordered a new Magura brake set._. $$$ gone😂
Dang that left was fast. Lol.
Man I've been doing so much this spring break I havent had a chance to catch up on wolftick!
Get this Wolftick Videos (Tick). I took in my GT to have the rear brakes looked at. The mechanic at the local bike shop said he would have to bleed the brakes. I had bought pads when they were still cheap. 12bucks a pop for the mt200 compatible pads (bought 8sets lol). He said it just needed a bleed and didn't need a set. So i went home with my bike. Took a better look. The pads were toast. 1/8" left. Changed the pads. Fixed.
Now why tf would the bike shop want to be so greedy??? Smh. Yeah. I wish i was up your way! I wouldn't be on the phone rippn on the owner. The quote for the brakes getting fixed and one cable housing was 145$! Fml. 12 dollar part and a 3 dollar part installed. Scammers! Hate em!
Dude I sheered the bleed nipple on my rear caliper in half once lol, thankfully it was easy to extract since there's already a hole in it. Tektro sent me the part free of charge aswell
This is an awesome channel! I love that you focus on more budget stuff.
Been so busy lately…. catching up… "put a helmet on". Means something to me. Look up Brad Stine. He is a comedian and one of his acts incorporates putting a helmet on. My wife took me to see a few of his shows when we first got married a decade or so ago.
Fails suck…but it's a lesson learned that keeps us from repeating the failures. So… let it teach you…but not disciple you to be more like a failure each time. Haha!
Never seen inner tube do that 😁 as for bleed port, I use regular L shaped hex key, it's thin, so flex is good indicator have I tightened it too much. But, crap happens. And every lesson costs 🙂 stay safe my friends
More fails then I care to admit . . . lol
Thanks for the video! Btw, the helmet looks good on you, Tick!
my big FAIL: the reach adjustment screw down in the lever of a Tektro HD brake, went into the housing of the lever.. i didn't know that when you clockwise twist the alken adjustment screw (which is actually the rod that compresses the reservoir) to adjust the reach.. if you keep twisting it clockwise, and forget to back it off each time you bleed the HD brakes, the rod/screw will fall inside the housing.. There are 2 small parts needed and some very specialized tools needed to fix.. and that cost more than sending in the lever to Tektro in Ogden.. Remember to back off that screw all the way so that it doesn't eventually fall into the lever and jam up the mechanism. This was a big FAIL.. When we have fails, the hope is that we learn. Thanks for being so honest about this so we all can learn also..
My last job I worked in Nascar camping world truck series. I built all the brakes and suspension for the #13 truck. We used floating rotors on everything as well.
Those oil slick rotors are dope. Might have to sort some for my axum dp.
