I love Borderlands 2 and it is still one of my favorite games of all time. Borderlands 1 is a quaint little vibe and Borderlands 3 was super ambitious but didn’t quite stick the landing.
I forgot to credit one video during my video so I’ll just put a link to it here. It’s the Tannis logs compiled: https://youtu.be/y0J_KNap6EA

You don't mention the pre-sequel in this video. What are your thoughts about it?
BL 1 and 2 are the only good ones
I liked how using a weapon type made you better with it in Borderlands 1 it was a realistic way to get better and wish they'd bring it back in 4. Tanis acting so cold and heartless after Maya dies fits with her awkwardness with having no filter and not understanding others and that was before her time on Pandora made her crazy.
Who thought that a series all about being badass needed a “girl power” story for the 3rd😂😂
Bro all you had to say about Handsome Jack was 'he was interesting in how oddly he behaved' 😵💫😵💫😵💫
Its woke.
imo bl1 is the best in term of atmosphere/setting, bl2 is the best in term of story, bl3 is the best in term of gameplay and builds… pre sequel looks like a « borderlands like » by another studio
Along with the overuse of jokes in 3, my main gripe with it is that the villains are just insufferable. I genuinely cringe at some of their lines and any time there are psuedo cutscenes where they are talking, I just go open a golden chest or gamble or something. Just anything to not have to listen to them because of how poorly designed I think their characters are. It's an absolute shame because Handsome Jack I think is genuinely one of the best written villains out there
Borderlands 3 did suk
It was fukin woke you clearly sound like an LGBBQ member fer sur
"The story sucks dude."
yeah.
I hate the premise of streamers being the main villian's gimmick. They're also stereotypically crazy and violent for very shallow reasons to just move the plot forward. Its a stark switch between Jack and the paradise punch lemonade twins.
one thing that they will fix on bl4 is the plot. i know the gameplay is going to be awesome. i just hope the story is not as cringey as bl3.
Oh man, all your thoughts on how to improve the Calypso twins are actually spot on. Instead of just making them annoying caricatures of online personalities, delve into the psychological tropes that surround the culture, the constant validation, etc. And then delving into their history to see what shaped them and made them feel the need to be validated externally. Man you're on to something there. Great job.
Bro got you with F11
Borderlands 4 hopes: Lilith is actually dead and Ava no longer exists.
The fact that bl3 released so broken Really pissed me off. Like the audio didn't work half the time and the game broke on me more than thrice
BL4 is whats gonna be the make or break for Gearbox. The weirdest part about this series is the varying levels of Consistency. BL1 was pretty good, but BL2 elevated it. Pre Sequel did a lot of things better than 2, but didn't have as much content or end game, which lead to it being overshadowed. Tales was a pretty good bridge between 2 and 3, narratively, and then you get to BL3. When it comes to Gameplay, Visuals, Exploration and the gameplay loop, its easily the best in the series. Theeeeeen you get the story, characters, and dialogue. I think its been very well explained as to how bad it is, but the weirdest thing, is the DLCs were actually extremely well written. Handsome Jackpot was a great aftermath of the hole that Jack left after he died, and the Casino was much like Dead Money's Sierra Madre, from FNV. Guns, Love, and Tentacles was a really cool DLC for Hammerlock/Wainright, I thought the Bounty DLC was aesthetically pleasing and good fun, Krieg's DLC actually had a lot of meaning and did a lot better for a send off to Maya, and even the Ava DLC for Year 2 gave helped me warm up to her a little bit. Then Tina's Wonderlands is a hit or miss depending on what you enjoyed, and New Tales was BL3 but somehow WORSE?!?
I really hope BL4 manages to either end the series on the best note in can, or bring it back to its glory. Based on the Teaser and what Gearbox said about how they see criticism, i feel somewhat optimistic, but even Saints Row messed up so badly, that a reboot killed the Studio. Only time will tell.
I'm replaying the first game for the umpteenth time now. 2 I've played through a couple of times. I got 10 minutes into 3 and returned it. That's my opinion of these games in a nutshell.
In BL2, the player actually foils Jack's plans at every turn. You escape his traps over and over. Really, out of the dozens of quests involving Jack, he only gets a couple wins. In BL3, the bosses disrespect you and run away, it feels bad.
In my Opinion the main problem of Borderlands 3 is that the story was just too short. there are multiple characters (mostly Ava) who just suffered from the lack of development. then you constantly have to travel somewhere. as im currently replaying borderlands 2 again i cant but notice that you have much more to do on the maps than in borderlands 3. dont get me wrong the collectibles were great but story and side missions were too strechted and it feels like you level up too fast.
Overall i could easily see every planet have the double amount of time for story and sidequests. The story about Balex for example who becomes the navigator of the sanctuary could easily be longer. make it that the Vault hunter enters this "family jewel" when its still flying. make some story missions in wich you have to help out so the ships doesnt crash into a cliffside or something, include some side missions so you also get to know Genivi. This way you would also have a legitimate reason to know where the vault key is wich then goes like we know from the current story of borderlands 3. that way we would know how good balex actually is at navigating and it feels more right to put him into the sanctuary 3 systems.
i feel like a part 2 to this video should be made now with aftermath of everything from Tales 2 and the movie
BL3 has the best gunplay and in many ways the best gameplay overall. Also, from a technical point of view, characters no longer gets stuck on minor nonsense like curbs and stairs, like in BL2. I am currently replaying BL2 and was shocked at how often I get stuck on even minor obstacles inside Sanctuary even. BL3 definitely handles a lot better.
BL3 is the game that looks and feels the best of them all, which makes sense with it being the newest. The different planets are also very beautiful and different from each other. Guns, sounds, powers are all fun for me.
However, I agree that the story is very bland and some main missions take forever. I absolutely hated that Balex-mission where you have to help the AI teddybear fight the evil ex-girlfriend AI. It was so annoying, endless and grating and the map just sucked so bad. (Also, I know some people freak out when I say this, but Ice-T as a voice actor was just awful. He sounded so utterly bored through the entire thing. Didn't care at all; just a paycheck. At least that was what it sounded like to me)
The Calypso twins are passable villains for me. Nowhere near the aggravating charisma of Handsome Jack, obviously, but I have no real problem with them. They are douchebags to the extreme, and the "influencer" angle is a good idea, even if it's not perfectly pulled off.
Now… the killing of Maya, especially with the disrespectful attitude from Ava, felt really bad. Especially because I loved to play as Maya in BL2. It made me hate Ava quite a bit.
So, for pure gameplay, BL3 is the best. For story and all that good Borderlands "feel", BL2 is the best. Also, sidenote: the intro to BL2 is the best of all the games. The car getting hit by the train, leading into the music and slow motion is just perfection.
Yes, BL1 is a classic, but it is very old now.
I haven't played the non-mainline games, and I didn't care for the pre-sequel. All I remember was Torgue shouting and shouting and a LOT of emphasis on the butt slam. Got lost and bored quite quickly in that one, unfortunately.
Playing through BL3 right now and wow, the amount of side quests is puny. Borderlands 2 had so many little areas filled with quests that you would've never discovered if you just do the story and don't do any extra exploring. Essentially, BL2 is open world like Skyrim. BL3 is open world like souls games.
