Border Force stops using drones from Chinese manufacturer

The Australian Border Force has stopped using DJI drones after they were suspended by Australia’s Department of Defence.

The Drones had previously been blacklisted by the United States Military.

“If they’re not safe to use in the US military then I don’t think they should be in the Australian Defence Force or the Australian Border Force,” Shadow Home Affairs and Cyber Security Minister James Paterson said.

“It’s a good thing that they have now grounded this fleet.

“This is again another example of the government being reactive and responding after they’ve been prompted with questions on notice … they have to be much more proactive about this.”

  1. So we kept using them until the US military made a judgement on them. Says a lot about the judgement of our military 'experts'….but then Australia were always followers….in all things, except Vegemite….oh and those hats with the corks hanging from it……………

  2. Good work, but the real problem is just the avionics code so you can just drop a new controller in them running code that has been audited. The hard part is finding an alternative chip to put in them if it is an integrated system. Being able to do this is a capability that our military should acquire.
