Lol! Gotta love a typo in the very first text note! How the hell did I miss that after 4 final passes?! This is BS! I just found out that I can't remove or edit the commercials playing on this video because all the money is going to whoever owns the copyright to Berlin (Take My Breath Away), so they've piled on a million commercials! Usually I can at least reduce them to one every 15 minutes. I am so sorry about this, folks!
It bothers me SO much that the show mixes up the terms Dragon and Dragon Reborn. And it bothers me SO much more that readers don't know that there IS a difference.
The entity known as Rand is NOT known as the Dragon. Lews Therrin SPECIFICALLY is the Dragon, it's a name HE earned in the age of legends. Rand EARNS the name The Dragon REBORN*** due to the prophecy linking the two of them and through his own actions.
The ENTITY that is the soul of Rand/Lew Therrin is known as the (male) Champion of Light. (There is also a female champion of light which is its own distinct entity, Amarasu is one example of her showing up as a hero of the horn.) Amarasu and Rand are both the same "rank" of entity working directly for the wheel, but representing Saidar and Saidin respectively.
No, the audience did NOT know that men and women can't teach each other the one power. They have barely even said the words saidin and saidar (they literally didn't use those terms in season 1 except in X-ray content on amazon prime).
As far as the audience knows, strictly from watching the show itself with nothing else, men can straight-up see saidar being channeled, because Logain covers his eyes when Nynaeve is glowing when she captures him.
As much as I hate the change, it is possible that combining Logain with Asmodean's character would work for an adaptation. Asmodean is my favorite forsaken, so it pains me to say that, but it's true. It would not adversely effect the plot of the books to eliminate Asmodean (no pun intended, for those who know)
Why the hell does Rand have a British accent? If they are going with British accents for him, they could have at least made it a country accent, not RP. He sounds like a posh Cambridge scholar. He's a sheepherder damn it. And in the books, Lanfear, at least in my imagination, was super-hot. The actress they picked is sickly looking. Looks like they just pick stuff from the novels and throw it into a blender.
My understanding is that both halves of the One Power want to do their own thing, rather than what the channeller needs, so men, being men, antagonize Saidin and kind of bully it to follow instructions, while women, being women, make a show of letting Saidar in control, only to convince it that helping them was its own idea. A bit of what men and women who want to obtain something from the Other Half of the World would do in-universe, forsaken, ai sedai, queens and Nynaeve aside (I find wise ones to be way more reasonable since their authority seems to be based on earned respect). Sometimes I wonder if Saidin is actually the female part of the Power, and Saidar the male part: that would increase the symmetry of the magic system, making it more elegant.
lews therin and lanfear never were lovers in the past it was one sided, she turned to the dark on the promise that he would be hers. that is why making them have sex in the show undermines a huge story arc and her entire motivation for being obessed with him. you will find out in the end of fires of heaven why so i don't want to spoil it.
The writers left so many open ended interactions and unanswered questions because they suck at their job, and because Rafe has butchered the story so thoroughly in trying to tell it better than Jordan did that they are kind of handicapped from the beginning anyway.
I enjoy your analysis of this show so much more than the show itself. Watching the show is like watching the shadow of a dream. Nothing in the show makes sense unless you've read the books, but they obviously don't want to use anything that's actually in the books. 🤷
I can’t believe this show actually exists. It’s so foul and such a disgrace to the source material. I had forgotten about it for a while and now like Lews Therin Telamon my staggering disappointment is reborn.
Love your takes and editing as always though oh and the hat very cool.
good eye on lanfears costume. yeah, the silhouette is clearly doing a horns motive. and also mimicking Victorian wigs. but nothing else there is. it needs to be balanced out. collar, scarf, etc all options. the front dress opening doesn't work at all either imho.

Thanks for your recaps and watching this show so we don't have to. I've given up on this TV series – it seems like it's written for teenagers.

Oh, and welcome back.

Remember that flows of Power actually percieved as colored by channeler? Now forget it)
The Eddy Izzard cuts had me dead. Chef's kiss.

Please take care so you don't lose any brain cells watching this. I commend you for your sacrifice.

You do a great job, but it’s just too depressing to watch what they did to my favorite characters.
BTW, Amber, as you done with Book 5, what's your opinion aboit letter that Moiraine left for Rand?

Show is garbage I’m amazed they got a third season even with bad reviews and low ratings if you have Amazon money you can ruin anything
The "Top Gun" Take my Breath Away segment, LOL. chef's kiss
Yes… Lanfear Character is probably one of the best casting choices I think, for this show
