Bodycam Shows Police Shoot Man Who Pointed a Cane at Officers, Mistaken For a Gun

The Harford County Sheriff’s Department in Maryland released bodycam footage showing officers shooting a man who allegedly pointed a long object at them, which was later determined to be a cane, on April 23, 2022 in Forest Hill. Officers responded to a call about an allegedly armed suicidal man in a shopping center parking lot. When officers confronted the man, he attempted to flee so they shot out his tires. After a long standoff, the man allegedly pointed the long object at the officers, prompting them to shoot. One officer can be heard shouting, “it’s a cane, it’s a cane,” before officers opened fire. The suspect succumbed to his injuries shortly after the incident.

  3. I don't care what anyone says. The guy didn't have a weapon. It was just a cane. Not a gun or a knife. There was no reason for him to be shot and killed. He should have been taken down with a taser, shot with a bean bag gun, or surrounded the vehicle instead. These cops are terrible for what they did and was not justified. Literally commander fox syndrome at it finest. Stop supporting the actions of bad cops.

    Also you got to love when you took out the most part of the video when these officers shot this guy dead. Go watch inside edition if you don't believe me.

  10. Can I have his truck? Assuming it's repairable. He doesn't need it anymore and I'm poor. If you're thinking of killing yourself, find someone to give your car to first. That truck would totally change my life. It's a simple last act that could mean the world to somebody.

Trigger happy—-when the call acme over that its a cane…There should have been "no shots fired"….They always talk about "split second timing"…But when you have a person "surrounded" from all sides in the open like that and behind multiple vehicles–it's hard for the suspect to actually "fire" hit and get away with it striking an officer in this shooting scenario….They could have and should have held out for at least five to ten more seconds and would have seen it was a "cane" and the crisis would have ended without a single shot being fired…..
