In the last couple of weeks we saw SpaceX lose its oldest booster, get grounded, return to flight and still not launch Polaris Dawn.

  1. Spoiler Alert: Starliner made it back to the dirt without issue, however, can we say it would have made it with crew on board? Not really… they elected to take a much shorter route home than the crewed flight would have taken. Not sure why (radiation?), but this was probably done so as to reduce the number of firings that the capsule's thrusters were required to make, and thus reduce the likelihood that they would fail en route. So, it's not really valid to say it would have made it with crew.

  2. Oof, it's a bit harsh to call Polaris Dawn a tourist mission, even with the word "ultimate" in front of it, given the research and groundbreaking tech demos the participants have been training for 2.5 years to achieve. Is that really how you see it?

  3. That is so much money for a tower, Cost Plus is something that seems really really detrimental. Sometimes I think the government should have their own construction company, I mean there must be enough big projects nationally at various government facilities to justify such a thing. Need a launch tower, roll out "The Department of Infrastructure". Replace the key bridge? roll em out. Trim as many middle men as possible. Of course there is a flaw with this idea, The friend of a senator cannot overcharge the related agency needing work done by three times the actual cost of something like that.

  4. Why was she slatted to be the mission commander if she's never been to space before? I know we haven't put many folks up lately, but there's no need increase risk by making the rookie the mission commander.

  5. NASAs second launch tower will probably cost more than the entire Star Ship project at this point.
You work many days a year to fund government waste like this, but it's OK, it "creates jobs" πŸ˜‚πŸ’©πŸ€‘ Get socialists out of government now and always.

  6. Yeah… thanks for that Scott… I really needed an image of Jeff Bezos' mum and "certain anatomical structures" put into my mind whilst I was eating sausages…. yeah, thanks for that!

  7. Only a fascist government (classic definition) would allow cost-plus contracts. Fascism = big government and big business working together to extract maximum wealth from citizens. That's exactly what we have here in the US. Not "Crony Capitalism," but true fascism.
