  1. Man, I miss when Blizzard was Blizzard and video games were just video games. You didn't have to think about politics, social agendas, or scandals. You just got a game to have fun with, and your biggest worry was whether it was actually good or not.
I played the hell out of Diablo and Diablo II, then WoW took over for several years. I loved Burning Crusade; Wrath pretty much killed it for me, but I kept playing because of the guild and finally quit during Cataclysm when I realized I was having more fun "playing" the auction house than the actual game. I played a tiny bit of Diablo III, but that was hot garbage. Then I picked up Hearthstone because it was free, WoW-based, and a good entry-level CCG, and I had never played a TCG/CCG before. After the whole Taiwan thing happened, I was completely done with Blizzard.

  2. Ever since they banned blitzchung,i haven't played a blizzard game since. That really pulled the last straw for me. I've abandoned them, overwatch? Nah dude. I didn't care about about it whatsoever

  3. Oof Blizzard. I remember when EA and Jane's stopped publishing, that was a kick in the guts, and when Origin was acquired by EA. Then disney shut down Lucasarts. The gaming landscape just continues to change. But activision and blizzard did themselves dirty here.

  4. The thing that's missing from a lot of these Internet Historian copycats is a lot of the nuance of the situations that lead these companies into doing the dumb shit they do. And there's always the impression left on people in comments and social media that the devs rather than their higher ups and marketing teams were screwing up. The Diablo 2 and StarCraft remasters weren't even mentioned, and they were the two things that went right for that company in several years. Yeah, Blizzard's certainly collapsed, which I'm sure is part of the reason so many new RTS games are in the works to compete with SC2 and WC3R now, even by former Blizzard devs that jumped ship and made their own studios. But there's been tons of interviews with former devs now that made clear why features promised in games got scrapped or why entire projects turned into a disaster when the folks working on them wanted them to be good. Hell, it turned out that Blizzard got so big and there were so many middle management mfs obfuscating things that there were tons of horrible things happening in the company that Morhaime didn't even know about until after he left. Seeing something that you built slowly rot like that from the inside has got to be huge kick in the nuts.

  5. I was with Blizzard from the beginning. I loved all of the titles. Now we have a situation where time marches on and a failure to adapt will deter your ability to continue to be successful. I am sad about what has happened to the company. Hopefully this will be a lesson for other video game developers to do better. Thank you Rosie. You are a joy.

  6. There's a reason why fans in their mid yo late 30s have so much faith and love for blizzard from when they were kids. It's hard to fully explain it without living it. For me I've lost faith in blizzard after wow came out because I realized they lost what their die hard fans wanted even if they got temporary new ones.
