Not only was the public treated to a new video of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle this week, there was also a series of articles in People magazine documenting their Hollywood travails. In the opinion of the Daily Mail’s Richard Eden, it was just a chance for those close to the pair to make excuses for their failings. ‘Frankly I found it quite hilarious. It’s all these excuses for why things didn’t work out with Spotify,’ he tells Palace Confidential.

As an American it is disheartening that the first American to marry into the royal family is such a huge disappointment. As much energy that she puts into being an embarrassment she could use that same energy to add PR to the royal family.

Jo, I adore you, and I appreciate your fair questions when it comes to Harry & Meghan but…ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?!?! "Are the Sussexes finally getting the chance to tell their side of the story?" They have done nothing but tell their side of the story for three years in interviews, books, tv series, court cases, podcasts, propaganda pieces, powerhouse PR, etc. And their victims are muzzled by "Never explain, never complain" or not having the power or resources to fight their, or being under law enforcement oath to keep silent. Darling Jo, how can you ask a question with the premise that it is Harry & Meghan who have been reduced to silence these last three years!?!?
For example (This is such a long story I'll try to keep it down to one example but keep in mind, this is just the tip of the tip of the iceberg.) For example, the Toronto police chief retired so he could defend his officers and sue Meghan for slander. While Meghan was dating Harry and the paparazzi flocked to Toronto, the Toronto police provided Meghan with VIP Close Protection even though she did not qualify for it, only dating and having no official status. The retired Chief of Police was at the time the Deputy Chief of VIP Close Protection so he experienced it first hand. He said they gave her elite protection but "she was never happy" and she "bullied" her protection officers, including the chief himself. This is the police chief of the fourth biggest city in North America–for him to call it bullying it was serious. (The film crews in Toronto also said she bullied them.) Furthermore, she exploited her protection officers, treating them like indentured servants, sending them to buy her coffee and run her errands and do menial tasks for her. Then hurray she moved to the UK to marry Harry but alas, they came back.
They came to Vancouver Island on "holiday" and then left the Royal Family but did not leave Canada. They went "we live here now" and expected Canadian taxpayers to keep paying their expenses in what turned out to be an IPP scam. While they were no longer visiting dignitaries or working royals or doing charity or in any way Canadian or had even asked first, they expected us to pay $30 million per year…HALF of which was for personal luxuries like private jets. And they were using the private jets we were paying for (hundreds of thousands of dollars per trip plus the greenhouse gases) for personal luxury trips and money-grubbing grifts (like their first trip after moving to Canada, making us pay a $470,000 luxury trip to Miami including $260,000 private jet so they could pocket a $500,000 speaking fee from a banking convention.) They were exploiting Canadian taxpayers and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police–who have an enormous country of mostly wilderness to cover which is difficult and expensive and the egregious drain of resources for two rich foreigners was impeding their ability to serve and protect Canadians who were footing the exorbitant bill. ($30M/yr is no exaggeration. The British government independently calculated their expenses in Canada at $33M/yr or £20M/yr.) The RCMP is prohibited from speaking of such things but a whistleblower revealed the scam.
Canadians are kind but not pushovers. Even before the details came out we smelled a con. Polls in support fell to only 3%. THREE PERCENT. In January 2020 Prime Minister Trudeau announced we would stop paying their expenses on March 31, 2020. On April 1st they moved to California and freeloaded off billionaire Tyler Perry instead: mansion, private jet and security. It pretty much proves they were never interested in living in Canada (and its peace and privacy), they just felt egregiously entitled to exploit Commonwealth taxpayers, live in their free mansion on beautiful Vancouver Island and hop on private jets to London, Los Angeles and around the world at Canadian taxpayers expense.
When Canada became the first country to revoke their IPP status, they did what they always do: they slander the people who did not hand them their outrageous demands on a silver platter. They lied about and defamed the law enforcement agents, Canadian taxpayers and government that had twice provided elite VIP close protection at great cost and difficult conditions (the way they were treated by H&M) despite Harry and Meghan not qualifying for IPP status both times.
But in the Netflix propaganda series, they lied, claiming the Toronto police had denied them protection a d Meghan described them as callous and cold before her entreaties of being a defenseless woman. Meghan's lie: "If any other woman was scared and besieged wouldn't you help them?"
-"That's what you get when you date a prince."
-"So I'm just supposed to live like this?"
Meghan mimes an uncaring shrug. "Yes."
The Toronto chief was outraged at being smeared this way. But the Toronto police could not comment. Canadian journalists investigated but without input from the police it was hard, but they managed to put together lots of proof from photos, videos and eyewitness accounts, confirming Toronto police officers were protecting them, police cruisers patrolled her street and responded to her calls and intervened with paparazzi. The only way the police chief could speak out is by retiring–he said be would sue Meghan for slander but I have heard nothing since. Maybe he doesn't have the money, maybe the case was too difficult, maybe he was convinced to uphold the Canadian police and military oath of silence.
So despite the proof in the press, the Toronto police side of the story is not getting out, not beyond Canada. What the world has heard is Meghan's slander and even people like Richard Eden (adore you in every other instant) swallowed that lie hook, line and sinker. Richard said if they were refused protection in Canada they should live in the UK where people would value them and want to keep them safe. They were welcomed at first, they were protected by elite close protection officers and they were defended by the Canadian public who have little tolerance for paparazzi and tabloid lies. Their own entitled exploitation made us change our minds. I was a devoted defender of the Sussexes until their lies and grifts came to light.
Furthermore, Harry lied on the Netflix propaganda series, claiming Canada had not provided protection when they moved here again 2019-2020. Yet Meghan and Harry have carried on about what victims they are because Canada had suddenly pulled their security without warning (three months is not without warning, especially since we had never agreed to pay their $30M/yr IPP scam indefinitely. Even paying while they were on a very very long "holiday" and another three months to give them time was generous as they had zero official duties and one measly charity function all those many months). They said they were "shocked and upset" that Canada would stop paying their security. How can Canada stop paying their security if we had never paid for their security?!? They contradict their own lies! But we don't hear about this because the RCMP will never complain, never explain.
Sorry I have failed to keep this short. Again. But I've finally arrived at the conclusion: Harry and Meghan have a great deal of privilege and power, enormous platform and PR, and they have been using them relentlessly and mercilessly to attack and smearm aka "telling their side of the story" which is full of proven lies that have done immeasurable damage. But all the people they have slandered who are held to silence, and/or who don't have titles and fame and fortune and armies of lawyers and friends in high places. How are they supposed to tell their side of the story aka defend themselves against such powerful global slander and smear campaigns?
Jo, I like that you ask balanced questions about Harry and Meghan, but this time "will the Sussexes finally be able to tell their side of the story" was the furthest thing from balanced. They have been "telling their side of the story" non-stop for three years. That's the very reason they're in the trouble they're in, their relentless slander turned even the U.S. public against them.
Harry and his wife have focused their brand on themselves, and they are largely perceived as self-centered liars. If they want a legitimate brand, they need to put themselves out of the picture and bring a worthy cause and worthy people to the front. Do the work without looking for an award.
