How to grow a vegetable garden to produce food and be successful. Many gardening methods being shown on videos simply will not grow fruits/vegetables.

Watch This Before You Make Compost to See What Can be Used to Turned into Garden Soil Container

I Have wait on gardening
Tell it get warmer has winter wont go way it still early I know and it MI
Robbie, thank you for your insights. My garden journey started 3 years ago when I stumbled on your channel. I have not looked back. I have watched other sites and I absolutely agree with everything you are saying. Be encouraged. Please continue to share your thoughts and your wisdom.
I once tried a drawer that i had for tomatoes…it was my first. I didnt even put holes in it..bcus i didnt think it needed it…omg, got the best cherry tomatoes!!!!!
Why do you have your totes only about half full of soil?
For layering, what size pots?
Can asparagus grow in containers?
I'm so somewhat new to gardening, can you supply a list of which plants to keep separate in their own containers. I do have plants in containers. But didn't have much success with cucumbers……Thank you! for sharing your wisdom with us.
You both be bless 🙏🏼
Tina….from Texas
I love your chair garden setup. I “inherited” a chair when we bought our house and didn’t see how handy it would be and I have tons of totes.
Roots & Refuge talked about letting bugs get on some of the plants as sacrificial plants so they won’t go to the others. I found it works! You earned my sub.
So glad you said this. When I see those perfect beautiful raised beds planted with EVERYTHING, it makes me sad to know what it's going to do later on. Sad because it will make people never to want to garden again.
Even though I have all the land I need to garden in, I'm going to try a few totes. Weeds in the garden over took it last year. I have to admit to myself that these senior knees can't keep up and I need to out smart the garden to make life easier.
Thanks for helping new gardeners and old ones too.
This kinda reminds me of deep mulch in a bucket. I am about to drill holes in a bucket. I built a garbage can mulcher and it’s working well. People spend to much $$$ on fancy stuff. I just want things to work.
Robbie, you are so true about too many plants in the same container (having stunted growth
My Swiss chard took off after I separated 3 plants that were in the same container last season.
Great advice, I have experienced this many times over when I plant too many things in one container.
Thanks for the reminder that less can equal more. I’ve always known that over crowding a bed of plants/veggies can result in a small yield, (as my Mom had told me more times that I can call 😊), but sometimes I do and have regretted it.
But last year I planted peppers and tomatoes in their own containers and got plenty at harvest.
Just need to not let the excitement of planting outweigh my desire to grow a lot.
I’ve been experimenting with the 3 tier greenstalk-style containers and there is not enough soil for realistic growing. The YouTube videos try to make it look fantastic but based on my experiments the lower plants don’t get enough sun either. I will say I highly enjoy the Dollar Tree knock off MINi tiers for growing seedlings. Those are good. No promos here just telling what works for me.
what do you use for fertilizer. I've been using fish fertilizer and homemade texas tea.
Growing your food in plastic isn’t good. You have so much yard. Use those wood chip to start raised beds, control weeds. My beds work, they are 4’x 12’x 12”. My paths are mulched in wood chips, NO exposed soil anywhere. Last year I reaped 250lbs of butternut, endless greens, herbs and barrels of tomato. Zero plastic. Organic fertilizers.
Very informative video
Thank you Gary I want to garden in totes 👌🏾👍🏽
Robbie,I love your composting in place. I see all what you said is true. I had successful papayas. 4 trees gave me beautiful fruit. You said they are heavy feeders. I placed lots of kitchen scraps at the base of the trees through out the growing. I succeeded because of you. Thank you🦋💯🦋
Are you a Videos just about growing in California because I live in North Carolina and I can grow anything anywhere in my yard. We have plenty of room. We have plenty of water as a matter fact I have a willow tree right next to a Creek in my yard and I don’t have to grow in containers so I’m wondering if this is just for California or Nevada or wherever you are
Thank you for this I over seeded my elevated bed but tried to do it with things that would mature at different times. But getting ready to seed my beds, now thinking I need some totes for “bedrooms” too. You always have wise advice with the history of doing it behind what you say too. I remember you doing the soil study in bags, but forgot going to the store this weekend, still nervous about what Miracle Gro fertilizer really is made out of though 🤷🏻♀️, but some people swear that they grow so much using it.
What a great video…There’s such a flood of ‘career’ YouTubers, who seem to have just picked a topic to create content on…then there’s all the content scavengers just copying others, regardless of if it works (and usually without crediting the original creator for the great ideas!). You are a breath of fresh air. 😘👍🏻💕
🙏
Thank you for your experience sharing…I want my starters to be more prolific and your advise on the tomatoes, squash, cucumbers and melons are on time for me!
The thing is they are trying to 'plant' like a REAL Farmer even though many of them are not 'Market Gardening'. They simply plant MORE than their own families can eat and run into the problems REAL Farmers run into, which is why farmers, over time, were grateful for what we now call 'UN-organic' solutions!
Plant to feed YOUR FAMILY and any excess you can give to EXTENDED family or DONATE to groups helping the POOR. If, however, you are MARKET gardening than you really need to STUDY Small Farmers (preferably family owned farms) not just 'Homesteaders' with a lot of land to plant. Veggies are indeed PARTICULAR… the wrong soil, climate, area size or growing medium can indeed UNDO all your hard work!
I added my neighbors' grass clippings to my mulch. Don't know if rass was treated. do I have to throw the whole thing out?
Thank you for covering the subject of root systems. I did not even think about root systems except root veggies and mints. I appreciate you.❤
Very Informative Video. Gonna move those Squash away from my Indeterminate Tomato. Thank you for the Lesson.
