Better than ever! Festival of the Unexceptional 2023 classic car show report #fotu

An absolutely extraordinary gathering of yesteryear’s street furniture – and the event was won by a Daihatsu Applause that had driven 3000kms from Sweden! Perfect. #carshow #fotu #classiccars

As well as filming MANY Unexceptional cars, we caught up with @WrenchingWench and @UPnDOWN (it was his birthday) and a HubNutter who had travelled all the way from Portugal!

Highlights include a Mitsubishi Galant, a Metro made even more basic by @MorselsAndMotors , a Vauxhall Sintra, a Tatra 603 with a Moskvich Aleko behind it and the Mighty Dacia even made an appearance!

Thanks to all who came and said hello. Roll on 2023.

  1. My father in law bought a new Rover 214i (k reg) – I think it was soon after purchase that the face lift version came out, and also available was a bolt on grill so the pre-facelift front could be made to look like the new version! This may in part explain why the original face is not common

  2. 9:07 Unfortunately headlamp wipers were deleted after the 2004 model year with the switch to plastic lenses. Only the R models retained them. Interestingly, the S60 got fancy pop out high-pressure washers and the V70 only got cheap looking stuck-on nozzles.

  3. This was so much fun to see! I just kept chortling and giggling, not only at the amazing array of cars, but at your astounding ability to identify them as they passed, including engine and trim variants, and the number plates (when appropriate). Excellent camera work too. You are such a team!

  4. “Nissan Cherry Europe’s everywhere” 😂😂😂
Eddies and Daves are the only two on the road in the UK.
Shame my (ex-Eddie) Arna 1.2 SL didn’t make the concourse when I sent in an entry last year and went mostly unnoticed as a visitor last year.
It’s now sold and living in Dundee, so up to it current custodian if it goes to a future FOTU.

  5. It is heart warming to see the passion people have for their cars, treated like members of their family. A simple car doesn't make it inferior, you just have get more involved in the driving experience. So many cars and interesting stories, I wish such things happened here. Thanks HubNut for being such a diplomat and enthusiastic presenter of this event. Great sound and camera work btw, take a bow on that.

  6. Fabulous! So many great cars there! A friend had a Sintra (I called it Frank 😉). They only had it a couple of weeks before it dropped the power steering pulley and caused quite a brown-trouser moment as the steering was monumentally heavy without it!

  7. The show this year was rather ironically exceptional. It’s the highlight of the year for us and the review was great as always. There’s just a glimpse of our Escort Eclipse passing during the section with the wench with a wrench Audi. 😊

  8. Immensely enjoyed another Hubnut video. I wonder if you have come across any old Hondas. My Father who was a VW man , T3 pick up, T2 camper , T2 high top van ( the bath tub) T3 van . However, he also had an EX Honda Accord in metallic blue, a beautiful car to drive plus ,and I have never seen one since, a Honda Quintet in metallic green. Are there any that you know of. Thanks again for all your hard work.
