For now the battle line continued to pound on Volya, but the citadel of the Lineynyy Korabl’ was holding. The Bronenosnyye Kreysery Bayan and Pamiat Azova were closing in front of Carnot, but the battle line continued to hit Volya until she turned her stern and began to withdraw. Then Carnot turned the battleline fire on the Bayan. Carnot got a 300mm hit on Bayan amidships that started the ship flooding. Bayan quickly lost all three engines and began to turn away. But with a couple more hits she sank with 1691 of her 1789 man crew.
Pamiat Azova was targeted next. She took flooding hits aft and amidships but the total damage tore her apart. Pamiat Azova went down a wreck with 1757 of her 1789 man crew trapped aboard.
Don as leading Ochakov and Vitiaz behind the battle line. Tallin was falling in behind them. Carnot turned the battle line away from Volya and towards Don, intending to finish the three Zashchishchennyye Kreysery haunting her wake. Taking a flooding hit, Don attempted to fall back, but caught more hits and flooded out, sinking with 452 of her 514 man crew. Ochakov was closing next with Vitiaz behind her. Solférino put a 320mm hit into Ochakov that set off her main powder magazine. Ochakov lost all three engines and flooded out, sinking with 498 of her 514 man crew.
As Vitiaz came up she dodged one set of torpedoes only to take a 480mm torpedo from Solférino. She started to take more hits, but held on with flooding amidships and two engines disabled. The battle line was leaving her behind in pursuit of bigger game, as Volya had been making only 11 knots in her retreat. Her crew heroically controlled the flooding and got the ship moving with one engine.
Now the battle line was coming into range of Volya and need to switch targets as finally Vitiaz was able to disappear in a smoke screen. Tallin was closing, but Volya was more urgent. The formation broke up so Carnot and Béarn could close at 21 knots. Belliqueuse was split off to deal with Tallin.
Volya was flooded fore and aft, unable to pump three compartments forward out or her steering spaces. Engineering was dry. She had lost both towers and most of her guns were damaged. Her 33.2mm magazine was expended and she had no more 312.6mm high explosive shells. She had 790 casualties reported. As she came into range the Cuirassés began to pick her apart, with Magnanime getting the last blow through her aft belt that broke the flooding into more compartments. Volya sank with 2110 of her 2153 man crew.
Belliqueuse had turned to open her broadsides to Tallin. Thirty-three years old, Belliqueuse was armed with four 260mm guns last refitted in 1908. But she was still able to beat down Tallin and sink her with 485 of her 514 man crew.
Solférino had taken 99 casualties, Languedoc 75, Magnanime 15, Belliqueuse 3, Carnot 2, and Béarn, despite being the end of the line and attacked by Eskadrennyye Minonosetsy and Zashchishchennyye Kreysery, took no casualties.
For this, she got to collect the 312 survivors of the Russian fleet.

The Lyon class Cuirassé de 1er rang Solférino from the Barcelona Base navale principale in Southern Spain was joined by five Cuirassés du 2ème rang, the Bretagne class rang Magnanime, the Démocratie class Carnot from the Barcelona, and the Indomptable class Belliqueuse, along with the Normandie class Béarn and the Gaulois class Languedoc from the La Rochelle Base navale in Charente-Maritime Department are covering the landings in Oman at Muscat against the Russian occupation forces there. The Voyenno-morskoy flot Rossiyskoy Respubliki (Russian Republic Navy) has sent a task force to drive the fleet away and end the liberation. The fleet consisted of the Andrei Pervozvanny class Lineynyy Korabl’ (Battleship, literally ‘Ship of the Line’) Volya with six twin 312.6mm/34 mark 3 gun turrets mounted on the centerline ABQXNY with a twin 203mm gun turret firing over B, two Pamiat Azova class Bronenosnyye Kreysery (armored cruisers), the class lead and the Bayan with two triple 259.1mm gun turrets, four Don class Zashchishchennyye Kreysery (protected cruisers), the class lead, Vitiaz, Tallin, and Ochakov with two single 134.6mm guns turrets fore and aft, and two Zorkiy class Eskadrennyye Minonosetsy (squadron destroyers), the class lead and the Liogkiy.
On sighting the enemy to the south-west the Amiral ordered Cuirassés to form their battle line on the Carnot with Magnanime, Solférino, Languedoc, Belliqueuse, and Béarn following. On identifying the class of the Lineynyy Korabl’ Carnot turned the battle line to the north-west to open their broadsides, which they were going to need against the Volya.
Solférino opened fire first with her 320mm guns. Volya was closing, as were the two Eskadrennyye Minonosetsy hiding under smoke, heading towards Béarn who was having trouble closing up the battle line. But Béarn could defend herself, and she put two 300mm shells into the Zorkiy, lead of her class. Zorkiy sank with 122 of her 143 man crew.
Liogkiy was still trying to close for a torpedo run on Béarn when Béarn put a 300mm shell through her bow and 80mm shell through her aft belt. Flooding forward, Liogkiy had launched her centerline and starboard torpedoes, but at a bad angle. Béarn had no trouble avoiding them as she put four 300mm shells into Liogkiy, blasting her right out of the water and sending 133 of her 143 man crew down with her wreck.
The distraction had allowed Volya and the Zashchishchennyye Kreysery to close. The battle line focused on Volya first, getting flooding hits fore and aft and disabling her #1 engine. Volya fell back as three Zashchishchennyye Kreysery came into torpedo range but the secondary fire drove them off for the moment. They began circling around to close on Béarn, as if this hadn’t already been proven a bad idea.

There they found a force of Dutch and Russian ships, two Nizhny Novgorod class battlecruisers, the Kaluga and Tolyatti with four twin 368.7mm gun turrets mounted fore, aft, and one per side between the 2nd and 3rd funnels, giving a six gun broadside, along with a Kapitan Saken class destroyer, the Korshun, of the Royal Netherlands Navy, accompanied by a Zorkiy class Eskadrennyy Minonosets (squadron destroyer), the Statnyi of the Russian Republic Navy.
Vercingetorix spotted funnel smoke to the south-west, chasing them into the narrows of the strait. Vercingetorix and Liberté closed at best speed sending the Destroyers torpilleur forward to scout and harass. Fanion led Bisson and Janissaire. They quickly spotted the two Dutch battle cruisers closing. Vercingetorix turned the battle line north-west to open their broadsides while Fanion continued to close for a torpedo run and to pierce the haze of the smoke screen Korshun and Statnyi were making. In turning north Fanion neatly avoided the first two torpedo launches from the two destroyers. Fanion then launched her own torpedoes. The Korshun and Fanion were exchanging fire at close range and Fanion retired after taking a couple of hits. Bisson now led and launched at Statnyi. Korshun then took a 320mm hit from the Cuirassés and sank with 111 of her 119 man crew.
Bisson’s and Janissaire’s torpedoes missed Statnyi, and both sides were rushing to reload while Bisson and Janissaire put four 105mm shells into Statnyi. This was all it took to sink the Russian ship with 139 of her 143 man crew. Bisson easily avoided Statnyi’s last torpedo launch from her four single tube launchers.
Vercingetorix and Liberté were exchanging fire with Kaluga and Tolyatti with Vercingetorix putting a 320mm shell through Kaluga’s main belt. Bisson and Janissaire were finishing reloading their torpedo launchers as the capital ships continued to exchange shells.
With her launchers nearly loaded Bisson turned in to close on the Dutch ships. With Tolyatti now closer Bisson targeted her. Bisson and Janissaire missed however, and were ordered to retire now that Vercingetorix and Liberté had closed. Tolyatti was flooded fore and aft and listing to starboard (as always) with two engines disabled, fires on the ship, and 244 casualties reported. Her two twin 114.7mm guns were out of ammunition. With four more 320mm hits she lost her 56.1mm ammunition magazine and hull integrity amidships. Tolyatti sank with 1474 of her 1734 man crew.
With flooding aft Kaluga was running for Amsterdam, with her main battery layout still giving her six guns to fire over her stern. Her huge guns took time to reload and her crews were inexperienced, which slowed the reload process more. Vercingetorix and Liberté were pumping out far more shells. After a sixteen and a half minute stern chase Kaluga was sunk with 1706 of her 1734 man crew.
Vercingetorix secured her 43 casualties and Liberté picked up the 28 survivors from Kaluga. Bisson had already picked up the four Russian survivors and the eight survivors of Korshun. Janissaire got the job of picking up the remaining 260 survivors of Tolyatti, which were then transferred to Vercingetorix and Liberté. Fanion has 17 casualties, Janissaire 5, and Bisson 1.

The United State of America has come to the peace table at last.
Pushed by the Premier amiral de France, the negotiations could not touch on the protectorate status of Spain or Germany, with the two countries agreeing to recognize each other’s sphere of control. However the United States did agree to turn over their protectorates in Uruguay and the Eastern Aleutian Islands and a paltry war indemnity of $423,267,780. They also had to recognize France’s soverignity over the Balearic and Canary Islands, Mauritania, Cuba, Equatorial Guinea, Western Sahara, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, the Dutch Antilles, Northern Columbia, Panama, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, the Liadong Peninsula, the Galápagos Islands, and Peru, and all territories held prior to the war with Spain.
During the war the United States Navy lost five battleships, one battlecruiser, seventeen armored cruisers, fifteen protected cruisers, two destroyers, and one torpedo boat. This was more than half a million tons of warship displacement. They had 40,248 officers and enlisted men killed or lost at sea, with 4,647 captured. The American Merchant Marine lost countless Navires de transport unescorted, and four under escort, with 200 officers and seamen killed and 96 captured.
The Marine Nationale lost the the Bretagne class Cuirassé du 2ème rang Saint Louis Vaisseau amiral of the Flotte des Caraïbes, the Normandie class Cuirassé du 2ème rang Brennus from the Fort de France Base navale principale in French Antilles, the Porc-epic, lead of her Porcupine Croiseur Cuirassés class, from the Maracaibo Station navale in Venezuela, the Bruix class Croiseur Cuirassés Imprenable from the Fort de France Base navale régionale in French Antilles, and the La Motte-Picquet class Croiseur Léger De Grasse from the Fort de France Station navale in French Antilles. This totaled some 51,309 tons. They had 5,121 officers and men killed or lost at sea, and 524 rescued.

The Alsace, lead of her Grands éclaireur d’escadre class, and the Tricolore class Croiseur Léger Forbin from the Nice Station navale in Alpes-Maritimes joined the Troude class Frégate Davout from the Algiers Station navale in Northern Algeria and two Hova class Destroyers torpilleur, the Dague and Fleuret from the Mers el Kebir Station navale in Northern Algeria, and the Aspirant Herber class Destroyer torpilleur Le Fortuné from the Marseille Base navale principale in Bouches-du-Rhône Department on a commerce raid past the Pillars of Hercules to the Golfo de Cádiz. There they found the Independence II, another Independence class battle cruiser deceitfully renamed before commissioning, along with two other Indianapolis class protected cruisers renamed Indianapolis and Oklahoma, accompanied by the destroyer Hatfield, escorting ten Navires de transport, headed for the port of Cádiz.
However a storm broke over the Gulf even as Alsace closed, and taking cognizance of her orders not to engage torpedo armed ships in weather that makes torpedo detection improbable, broke off.
