Oh it's that tree… I see them everywhere… I remember people talking about chewing it before but it's a practice that's been slowly dying off in my area.
Last time I've heard of it was when I was in 7th grade.
I chewed it on occassion in Taiwan. If I was drinking, it would make me throw up most of the time, so I didn't chew it often as that was the time I'd think chewing it was a good idea.
So not fun!

When I resided in KL in the early 90's there was an old plantation bungalow on the outskirts, which had been internally 'space framed' and turned into an infamous nightclub, where extreme violence was common … The club was named 'Betel Nut' … Due to my associations I was one of the few 'white boys' who could go there and not get stabbed 😂
I live in a major betel nut chewing country. I saw a plastic cup FULL of someone's spit and chewed nuts… some worker set it down when pulled over on the side of the road… I went back to take a photo but by the time I got back to it it had been run over and splattered everywhere…. I saw bums on the street with NASTY mouth cancer and PSA's with people with their jaws cut away after radical surgery…
