Sunsoft developed and published “The Death and Return of Superman” for the Sega Genesis console in 1994. The game is based on the same-named comic book story arc in which Superman dies fighting Doomsday and is later resurrected. Players take control of Superman and four other characters who take on the mantle of Superman as they battle enemies and bosses from the comic book story arc. When it was released, the game received mixed reviews, with critics praising the graphics and gameplay but criticizing the difficulty and lack of variety in the levels.
