  1. 'what? hold on we're about to test galaxy buster, yes it has a name we call it the Armstrong, unfortunately its muzzle loaded which make is slow to reload but it does have a modest shell size only 1million ton …. what do we use to fire it? no its not rail or gauss … oh good guess yep we use antimatter charges thats why its muzzle loading, we havent figure out how to make a strong enough breach … yet'

  2. Something a lot of these amateur sci-fi writers don't seem to understand is that a giant spaceship is just a giant target. our ability to penetrate armor will always surpass whatever armor we create. And space, just like the ocean, is a hostile environment where if your vehicle breaks down you're screwed. So that's a lot of money, lives, and equipment that you'd be losing if the ship gets taken down.

Plus, even though you don't have to worry about weight or drag slowing you down, mass and inertia would make speeding up, slowing down, and turning an arduous process. As such, it would be incapable of forcing smaller, more maneuverable ships into an engagement. This, in turn, gives said smaller ships control of the battle; they can dance outside the Giant's effective weapon range, and since the large warship has less maneuverability, IT would have to be much further away to have a chance at avoiding enemy fire. This means enemy ships would be able to shoot it, but it won't be able to shoot them.

It's not that a giant warship can't work; it's just that a giant warship needs to be supported by smaller, lighter warships. Not just pop into an active warzone all by itself and solo an entire fleet.

Honestly, history has taught us countless times the folly of putting all your eggs in one basket, how a bunch of small sticks put together are sturdier than a single thick stick, the bigger they are the harder they fall, etc.

  3. Honestly, big guns aren't even that useful in a ship-to-ship engagement because, again, space is HUGE; you're never going to have enough area coverage to make it impossible for enemies to dodge.

Powerful weapons are better reserved for stationary targets; like planets and space stations.

  4. 5:44 yeah, this author has no sense of scale. Why would the ships be anywhere near kilometer range of each other. Grouping up serves zero strategic purpose in open space combat, and such relatively short distances significantly increase the risk of friendly fire, or worse, ship to ship collisions while maneuvering.

Besides, if the ships had to be that close together to fight, then that railgun would also be destroying allied ships because they were already in engagement with one another.
