  3. The tone of the story smacks of history as written by the victor. It's difficult to believe such a vain, cruel, and arrogant civilization (if you can call it that) would figure out space travel. Let alone one with an aristocracy.
    Plus, no nation refers to itself as a hegemony. The connotation is too negative. It's the same reason I laugh when a character proudly refers to their country as an empire.
    This isn't necessarily bad. There's some potential to explore the nuances of historical revision and retroactive propaganda.
    All that aside, it kept my attention and that's not very easy to do.
