A very special thank you to Jason from the Gaming Ambience channel. His mixes have helped my productivity in uncountable ways over the years. Many a video has been scripted while listening to their work. They very kindly allowed me to use some of those tracks here. Please give them some love: https://www.youtube.com/c/gamingambience

With how much the name pronunciations can change even between our own world states, I think it’s fine keeping to the most common way one would say it.
Plus, it kind of also makes sense somewhat too in the BT universe and how many thousands of cultures exist and even if one said Davion one way there very much truth others could pronounce it the other but both are correct it just comes down to cultural tongue.
Also can’t wait to see the rise of our 5 grand successor lords next time. It’s going to be a good one.
A question out of curiosity: how do you plan to cover the 4th succession war "from the 3025 perspective"?
If the greedy mechtechs didn't scrap the Rotunda Scout Car for its fusion reactor the politicians would have a way to escape the constant assassination attempts
Between them instigating the Second Succssion War, operation Holy Shroud and Holy Shroud II, I think I've come to rather despise Comstar. No faction has clean hands of course, but Comstar has the most blood on theirs as far as I'm concerned, and it's been nice learning more about them and their history beyond the memes.
So far I haven't noticed any pronounciations that actually sound wrong, at least not to me anyway.
Excellent video, as always! Keep up the good work Historian!
My (absolutely non-expert) opinions on pronunciation of names (even taking into account the fact that all these people are 1000 years removed from their ancestral homelands on Earth):
You're probably right on Janos. It is an eastern European name, and it should probably be pronounced as such. At least that's how I always say it in my head.
I think Davion is stated (somewhere) that it comes from French D' Avion, which would probably sound more like Dah-Vion than Day-vion. You're also on point for the pronounciation of Hanse, it should be something like Hanz-eh.
I like the fact that you pronounce Kurita as you do, with a sharp Ku- sound, instead of going for what many use making it sound like Kew-rita. Japanese language has sharp sounds like that.
Steiner with a thick SH sound? Yes please!
I think that historically Liao is supposed to sound a bit like Lia-u, taken from Wikipedia, but it doesn't sound as good.
I have the tendency of pronouncing the world of Xhosa as Sho-sa, maybe with a hint of an x in the beginning (kinda like kShosa?), but maybe that's just me. 😄
Oh damn! My day just got good!!!!
This made me think. i'm not an expert on this lore at all, but comstar kept the succession wars going to degrade the capabilities of the great houses. They mostly achieved their goals. why then did they turn against the clans when they invaded? I'm really not clear on that part.
Another great lore video! I wonder if it would be feasible to include the date or year on-screen when a chapter begins? With so many events happening over the 3rd Succession War, its hard to keep track of where in the timeline certain events take place at
well done.
Always fun and entertaining!
Adept 1: "We can't decipher this code."
Primus: "Have you tried breaking it down."
Adept 2: "Oh, right, we totally forgot."
So seeing as we're getting close to 3025 do you have plans to shift from a historical perspective to maybe a more news line post 3025
I just finished Heir to the Dragon, so I am ready for some Takashi K. action.
Tikonov 4: Surely This is the Last One, Right?
@Sven Van Der Plank – considering that not only is this setting removed from us by a millenia, but also that it covers hundreds of billions of people across over a thousand worlds, it is likely these names have been pronounced in every imaginable permutation… and a few we haven't thought of. Some people have probably never heard a live broadcast from the Capial, where the ruler's name was clearly pronounced, and doubtless others have intentionally mispronounced them… and this is the only way some have heard it said. I enjoy your work, and the professionalism you execute it. Don't let uncertainty of names bog you down. Thank you for another excellent video!
Hohiro was no noble Eastern dragon. He was a Western view of a Dragon. Covetous, irritable, and ultimately a thieving marauder.
Anyone who unironically likes ComStar/The Word of Blake…has serious issues.
Nero fiddled while Rome burned, and Comstar raved while the Inner Sphere got nuked.
Do you think the creatures she saw were multiples of Wynona's Big Brown Beaver and it was a different Primus she was listening to?
Look it how Americans and the British say “aluminum”
Your pronunciations are fine. Love the entire series.
Keep in mind that Comstar didn’t fall until they rejected Blake’s teachings and turned secular. They were doing fine up until that point. They even beat down the Clans!
Rave-Comstar is definitely a religious rite that keeps the HPGs ticking over.
Probably because i‘m German Hanse Davions first name will always sound like the german word Hanse for me. Been that way for the last 30 years and probably will stay that way.
I also think there‘s no perfect pronounciation for many names, for me everything‘s fine as long as one knows which characters are meant.
I think with the massive physical and social distances, and unliklyness for general communication between houses, its very possible that each house pronounces eachothers names incorrectly in the same way many today have differant pronunciations.
"Let's go find the SLDF… what could POSSIBLY go wrong?"
-ComStar, maybe.
Of the many channels that I watch, there are none whose new videos I watch as fast as yours. Keep up the fantastic work!!
Comstar: styles itself as a religion and indoctrinates its followers to see its primus and precentors as figureheads and people like Blake and Toyama as saints.
Comstar leadership: lets drop rumours of the primus having visions of our 'saints' so we can publically cart her off to a padded cell.
Comstar acolytes: These visions are Blake talking to us through the primus! Praise Blake!
Comstar leadership: surprised pikachu face
Great Vid Sven, for those pronounciations. I think Yan-nosh sounds right. Hans is ok. I go back and forth on Davion. Keep them coming, when you can. Quality is important. Have fun with MW5.
