Battle of Marathon 490 BC; (Episode #18)

I’m very excited to present to you the Greco-Persian wars (5th century BC). In the next three episodes, we will cover 3 major military engagements. Today, we will start with the Battle of Marathon, (while the next episode will focus on the Battle of Thermopolis, followed by the incredible naval Battle of Salamis.

The Greco-Persian Wars were a series of conflicts between the Achaemenid Empire and Greek city-states beginning in 499 BC and lasting until 449 BC. It’s worth mentioning that the Greek city states were constantly at odds with one another, and the two main powers: Athens and Sparta, frequently fought small battles.

  7. Greece states refuse to help due to dispute about Field Commander of the whole army. Spartan want to be the commander but the battle is in Athenian land. In the end with Athenian victories bring them lot of political power over other states. Greco Persian war is very interesting due to political instabilities of Greece manage to defeat a major powerhouse of Persian Empire.
