Baroness Seren and Her Undead Host – SOVL #1 Vampire Knight – Warhammer Tabletop Roguelike!

SOVL is a tabletop fantasy combat game with roguelike elements. You pick your faction and lord, select some early units and go on an adventure on a Slay the spireish map. So if you like warhammer tabletop games, this game is perfect for you. Iโ€™ve been having a great time with the game and itโ€™s FREE!

  1. So two notes on campaign management: resting spots are not(!) equal to fights, because you get no gold, which is the most important thing, other than experience. Battles get you more gold, and gold translates to extra units. Elite fights are therefore worth it, if they'd let you get another unit by the next upgrade shop ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. At 40:38 The Cruelty skill on your hero is surprisingly good especially if you can get the number of attacks on your lord up as well.

I was playing elves recently and had an elf lord that hit 8 times on a 2 – 3 ups with rerolls against enemy armor saves. Essentially it becomes an auto 7-8 combat score every round they are engaged with any unit, so as long as the retinue they are attached too is somewhat tanky it basically makes that unit unkillable and an absolute morale breaking unit. It does also combo nicely with cursed banner i believe as well.

Also at 48:35 the way melee attack rolls work in this game is that you compare each units skill stat. The Unit with the higher skill stat attacks on 3+ while the units with equal or lower skill stats attacks on 4+. Having 2 skill like the zombies means essentially you will always attack at a disadvantage of 4+ while giving most of your opponents a 3+ to hit, as I don't think there is a single unit that has 1 skill.

This is also why shooting is kind of broken in this game, a good ranged unit can hit close range on a 2 up which is better than every melee unit in the game with 3 – 4 power ranged hits.

  3. I wish there was a fall back mechanic or an option to flee after a combat even if you win. There have been so many times I wish I could have a unit fall out of combat to make room for another unit to charge. Or if it's just a bad fight.

  4. attacking vs a higher skill enemy is still a 4+. Higher skill benefits only attack, not defense.
BTW today's update changed rear charges. Now they only give 1 combat resolution, but don't allow the defender to attack at all (except with heroes).

  5. Undead Nations is by far the most difficult faction in my experience.

Started with Undead Nations using the Vamp leader, eventually beat the campaign 3 times. Then went to the High Elf faction. Stupidly easy by comparison. Orcs. The same. Dwarves, the easier yet. Haven't played the human faction yet.
