Bankrupt – NCL America Cruises

Cruise ships are a massive business worth billions of dollars around the world with multiple companies with massive fleets of ships. Out of all of them however, there is only one cruise ship that is registered to the United States. That being the Pride of America which began life by a completely different company, encouraged by the US Government. Them, along with Norwegian Cruise Line, both tried their hand at building out an all American fleet of cruise ships under a completely American company. Today I’m going to tell that little known story and how both those attempts at something special in the industry, failed spectacularly.

  1. Hawaii is tantalizing to the cruise market because they know people are willing to spend big money to see an American tropical paradise. We've had a fascination with those islands ever since the attack on Pearl Harbor and nothing much has changed about that. The problem of course is the twin gut punches of no casinos and crew that are US citizens only. Both bite into the bottom line revenue stream hard so a lot of those big dollars dancing in the eyes of cruise line CEOS are eaten up operating expenses.

For my own part I'm rather glad to have seen NCL's misadventures on this. The company flat out LIED about their plans for SS Independence and their negligence and deceit ultimately led to her scrapping in Indian the same fate of SS Norway which was also destroyed by the companies negligence and lies. I'll never spend another dime with NCL and feel they deserve every misfortune they face.

  2. Norwegian saw that no other cruise line was flying the US flag and having a US crew. Well to paraphrase Jeff Goldblum, NCL was so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.

  3. How you'd fair on the pride of America? Lol dude a good chunk of the USA (Midwest) is basically Canadian we just have guns and the freedom to speak our mind 😉 Seriously though love seeing how you continue to improve & evolve in your videos. Your dedication is a testament to the fact that if you pursue what you love without compromising quality you can achieve anything. Cheers brother!

  4. I used to work on the Pride of America for it's maiden voyage. I worked as a cook on the ship for 3 contracts (each contract was for 5 months) I enjoyed my time on that ship and I also was on the Pride of Hawaii. I was apart of the crew that brought the America from Germany to Hawaii. It was an adventure I will never forget. If they were talking wages at the time I was only making $8.65/hr with 10 years of experience under my belt when I joined, the only way to move up was to be friends who could help you get a promotion.

  5. Probably should have mentioned that they were lying to passengers telling everyone that the Constitution was being refitted when the truth was it was being stripped for parts to keep the Indy sailing. Then the Constitution mysteriously sank on its way to the breakers. They never intended to refit her. Those two ships have a long history and should have been saved.

  6. I sailed on the
Independence. They failed to tell us at booking that the entire ship except for us 3 young people were in wheelchairs. AARP had booked nearly every cabin for a convention. No casino, no disco, no night club no night entertainment what so ever not even a single bar was open after 9pm. We were board out of our minds. Had to entertain ourselves wich got us into trouble that I won't go into here. Except for that it was a great cruise on one of the few ocean liners left sailing. Please remember the Indy and the Cony we're not cruise ships. They were in fact ocean liners built to cross the Atlantic ocean in all kinds of weather.

  7. Should retitle your video to NCL possibly going into bankruptcy not NCL bankrupt because they’re not😂. Norwegian Cruise Ord Probability Of Bankruptcy is used to show its chance of financial distress over the next two years of operations under current economic and market conditions. Norwegian Cruise Ord Probability Of Bankruptcy is determined by interpolating and adjusting Norwegian Altman Z Score to account for off-balance-sheet items and missing or unfiled public information. All items used in analyzing the odds of distress are taken from the Norwegian balance sheet as well as cash flow and income statements available from the company's most recent filings. 8. My family was on a NCL America Hawaiian cruise in 2005. We were on the Pride of Aloha ship I think and a few days into our trip half of the crew had walked off the ship. Our cabin steward had told us all the issues that were going on in the company. We are big cruisers so the standards we were used to just weren’t there. We had a nice vacation but there were a lot of things that were lacking.

  9. When NCL came to the island of Kauai in the early 2000s they extorted local businesses for cash in order for cruise ship customers to be brought to local businesses. This was not a business arrangement this was extortion for cash only.
