Bangkok's NEWEST Rail Line | SRT Red Line Train | Bang Sue Grand Station to Rangsit

The SRT Red Line opened a year ago today. Bangkok’s newest urban rail line stretches from Bang Sue Grand Station to Rangsit. In this video I explore the Dark Red Line and explore the areas around the stations. There are stories of the line’s history, the local communities, the streets, the temples and the markets as well as some of the lesser known places along the routes. We end up at Bang Sue Grand Station where we take a look around the are and the station’s evolution through the decades. This video was edited from 3 separate videos that were uploaded in 2021. Enjoy!

  1. My two most feared words: 'Phahonoyothin' and 'Ratchadaphisek' handled very adroitly.
I can say them now, but it took a bit of work.
Thank you, Pat these long videos are brilliant.

  2. Not sure what to think about all this modern architecture, it's like they are building away all the charm and life and replace it with sterile effectiveness. Like you said where will all the vendors go? Street life is life in Thailand.

  3. In 2010 I figured out how to get around on the sky train. My friends didn't trust me. Easy to read the signs and always someone to help. But many new lines now. I hope to return and explore. Great city. Thanks.

  4. Great video Pat as always. You refrain from commenting on the sustainability and benefits/practicality of the Bang Sue station and other outlying mass transit lines that now seem to go to all far flung areas of the sprawling city with seemingly no rhyme or reason. I fear BS station going to turn into yet another white elephant like that of Makkasan station. Hopefully one day trains will permitted to run into Vientiane in Lao and beyond up to Kunming, Beijing and Shanghai but at present it doesnt seem that likely.

  7. Thank you. Your docs are incredible. I’ve been going to Thailand for 20 years, and my Thai wife and I have a home up in Nong Khai. I’ve learned so much enjoying your thoroughly researched videos.
    Wish you continued success…

  8. Two dud WWII bombs found buried when they started the construction of Grand Station. One defused another one exploded in the junk yard and took casualties.
Bang Sue Station was one among other strategic targets in WWII by the Allies.

  9. This Red Line seems a bit of a White Elephant (and not an auspicious one). It's a huge rail line that to me appears to connect rather sparsly populated areas, and which also seems duplicative of the northern end of the Sukhumvit Skytrain line. Is this line really necessary…it doesn't even seem to interconnect with the BTS and MRT transit lines.

  10. Really cool historical information. The old photos that aline with your narrative is fantastic! The temples, the neighborhoods, the cats!!! Haha!! You are the best at Thailand historical information.
