  1. Whenever Aang and Sokka work together, their brainwaves sync up and cancel each other out completely.
You really have to feel for Katara. Bloodbending is something she immediately wanted nothing to do with, but she got forced into learning. She can choose to never use it again, but the knowledge that she could do it will always sit in the back of her mind.

  2. "Ugly bags of mostly water." Yeah, bloodbending's up there with the Keepers from Babylon 5 on the list of thoroughly nasty stuff in fiction. As for the final four episodes, like the other multi-part stories they are separated by title cards so there is an identifiable point to pause at if you want to split them into two reactions.

  3. Toph: *cheats a cheater*.

    Katara: "this is wrong"

Also Katara: "Stealing is wrong UNLESS IT'S FROM PIRATES".

Hama's chapter is one of my favorites. The design of her face is creepy as hell.
It's an extremely dark chapter, but it also touches on a theme that is present throughout the series, but that perhaps not many people realize at first… the victims of war. Both Jet and his Freedom Fighters, as well as Hama, are people who have suffered at the hands of the Fire Nation; and they seek revenge above all else, regardless of whether their victims are those who harmed them. And also (since I didn't comment in the previous video, where one of my favorite episodes "The Beach" was) Zuko, Azula, Mai and Ty Lee can be included among the victims. Not direct, because they belong to the Fire Nation, but the context in which they were raised impacted how they are today… they didn't have normal childhoods and adolescence, because of the war and, in the case of Azula and Zuko, because of a father who raised the former as a war machine and completely despised the latter. The amount of subtext and foreshadowing this series has is incredible.

  4. Sozin definitely felt guilt,
The first words of his testament, he describe his days with Roku as "Brigther", and the last word of his testament he said he wasted his remaining life tracking the last airbender.
And all this is because of his own choice.

  5. This is one of my favorite episodes because it's one that really highlights how much more than a kids show Avatar can be. The good guys can win, but the price can be really, really high. Going out on Katara sobbing over their victory and what it cost her personally is a really powerful choice.

  6. I'm sure someone's already said this but I didn't see it in the first page or two of comments so HERE WE GO: Carrier pigeons (and thus, presumably, messenger hawks) don't go directly to the message's destination. Instead, they know where "home" is. If you teach a whole bunch of birds that "home" is "this one building here in town" and arrange to swap birds with another such building a town or two over every now and then, you've got the makings of a post office-y system! 🙂

  7. Sparky Sparky Boom Man’s tattoo may just be some sort of rite of passage, that may allude to a secret society of firebenders who utilize the same technique. Tattoo seemed too symmetrical to be placed there by himself and too uncommon to just be an aesthetic choice.

That said, tattoos in the Avatar universe seem to be a way to focus one’s energy/chakra. We’ve seen it with Aang’s tattoos when he enters the Avatar State, the glow is all his chakra flowing through his body. Sparky Sparky Boom may just be doing the same thing, only that he focuses all of his firebending through his forehead.

Technique-wise, it reminds me of when Iroh tried to teach Zuko lightningbending. It keeps exploding in his face, just like everything always does! Perhaps it’s a more refined version of that, and instead of using fingers, Sparky Sparky uses his forehead to channel the explosions.

  8. "Combustion Man" masters the advance technics of firebending, like metalbending from earthbending. Very dangerous for the user. Requires breathing and concentration. That's why he hurt himself after hitting by the stone in his head.

  9. I'll do you one better on the bloodbending.

Every element has a forbidden art. Water, it's blood bending.

    Air?

Remember Monk Gyatso, Aang's mentor that they found at the air temple in season one, dead in the middle of a room surrounded by the corpses of dozens of fire nation soldiers?

He sucked all of the air out of the room.

  10. I don't know if Katara will use blood bending in the future, but when a show like this dedicates an episode to revealing a new ability, it's usually for a reason. It seems to me as well, that it's use would not have to be evil. It could stop a wild beast from attacking, or prevent a friend from touching something dangerous.

  11. At 37:50 Hama is scared because Katara uses an earth bending technique to stop the water instead of traditional water bending redirection. You can start to see a lot of them mixing different styles of bending techniques😊

  12. Bloodbending is even worse and creepier because when you think about it it's almost like r*pe: exerting your own will on another person's body for your own uses. Worse because it could even be used to do r*pe so easily. Of course the show would not go there but as an adult looking back the worse bloodbending is.

  13. Toph can metal bend. It means she’s able to manipulate the earthly minerals that make metal. Iron, zinc, and copper are earthly minerals found in blood. Theoretically a metal bender, by association, can “bloodbend” as well.

  14. Hama wasn't Katara's mother's friend, she was her Gran-Gran's friend. You saw the waterbending woman with Katara's hairstyle in one of the flashbacks, back when Hama was still young.

  15. New subscriber, I’ve just binged watch your series to Ted Lasso and ATLA. For the finale, why don’t you watch all 4 episodes in 1 sitting but split the reaction to 2 videos. However, don’t have an ending discussion in the first episode and don’t have an intro discussion for the second one so that it’s almost one video. Hope that makes sense.
