Avatar Frontiers of Pandora preview: A beautiful, cluttered, confusing adventure

Entering a hands-on demo session for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora for the first time, I had braced myself to feel somewhat disoriented. What I hadn’t anticipated was encountering a colossal, vibrant world that, much like my airborne ikran companion, Carol, largely kept its distance from me.

As one of the few open-world titles in Ubisoft’s upcoming lineup, it was only natural to expect a vast map, complete with all the expected features. This included meticulously detailed plant and animal life, lush meadows, dense rainforests, and a variety of remarkable creatures inhabiting this visually captivating first-person shooter. However, as I grappled with my surroundings in this land of abundance, I couldn’t help but worry that developer Massive Entertainment had managed to incorporate every open-world element from the playbook except for the most crucial one.

  1. I agree with no marker too place fruit down to end the Quest. I can't tell if she just missed an dialogue saying place here or even a pop up text. I'll watch other previews later.

But, then she seemed to complain way way too much. I did this, but no ammo! Etc.. I am sure you can upgrade ammo pouch and craft better arrows.

If she didn't like this preview that is fine, but it did feel like she doesn't play at lot of games like this. Could be wrong though..

  2. I feel like her video game literacy needs to be worked on. I listened to other previewers from other channels and they clearly didn't have same the "cluttered" and "confusing" problems that she did. In fact, I had a better understanding of the game and what it was about and how the mechanics worked from other previewers than I did her.

  3. It looks like a game where you have to explore the world without your hand being held. Which will be a great experience unlike most games which do and the games done in 12 hours.

Need to use your brain to figure things out. I don't want a game telling me stuff. Finding out on your own makes it a lot more satisfying. They'll have the basics at the start, jumping in at 25%, yes they should have given a bit of a heads up on certain things, but exploring yourself and figuring it out is 100% more satisfying than a map ping telling me where to go and what to do.

  4. Does this lady understand she played a short demo of a exploration game and the devs wanted to show off certain things during those two hours hence many missions not starting up etc? It's unbelievable people like this exist. No sane dev will invite this Karen again.

  5. She wants more hand holding? I’m sure there is an option for that. I guess there was no hand holding on screen hint for how to show the HUD options menu.

I really prefer not having the classic Ubisoft telling me every step of the game.
