The green Na’vi were not experimented on, the Metkayina are just greener bc they’re a different race. They may look bluer in some shots because of the lighting, but overall they have a different skintone than the Omatikaya (Jake, Neytiri, etc.)
Pretty sure the Metkayina have a more turquoise skin colour, more spotted patterns, blue eyes, a broader tail and lower limbs and a more muscular body type because they adapted to their surroundings. Obviously the tail, muscles and broader lower limbs are for better swimming, the skin colour and patterns might be to blend in into that environment better. Human ethnicities have a lot of differences between them as a result of every group adapting to their respective environment. According to Cameron's lore the Na'vi have existed way longer than humans, and the history of the Omaticaya clan alone is older than the time humans invented agriculture and farming, so there's no possibility that the Na'vi, or specifically, are the result of a human experiment- especially since the humans haven't been on Pandora for longer than three generations.
