Ever since I can remember, republicans have claimed that their candidates – especially presidential ones – are chosen by God. (They said it through gritted teeth with Romney) Generations of religious conservatives doing that and then going overboard with Trump (who to their delight gave them license to hate more openly) is one of the reasons January 6th happened. It wasn't just they thought the election was stolen but they were robbed of a second Trump term promised to them BY GOD.
