Kings and Generals animated historical animated documentary series on the Ottoman Wars continues with the second video in the mini-series on the Long Turkish War. In the aftermath of the battle of Calugareni of 1595 (https://youtu.be/Du8CstRO1rw), the Ottoman empire is on the back foot in its war against a wide European alliance, but the battle of Mezokeresztes of 1596 would show that the sultans are still strong enough to enforce their will (https://youtu.be/u0vwL8Q_s0o). This episode will describe the continued Austro-Turkish struggle for the Romanian principalities of Wallachia, Transylvania and Moldavia, and the battles of Selimbar and Miraslau at the tail end of the Long Turkish War.

  1. Seeing the blatant lies of the Hungarian public which is effectively denying the existence of the Romanian people (similarly to what Putin is saying about Ukrainians), I believe it is advisable for the Romanian Government to introduce a visa regime with Hungary. No entrance without background check. They have deleted some very nice and well-documented answers, so they would also be capable of burning down museums. The Romanian state must take self-preservation measures. The public shall be reminded that Hungarians only represent 6% of the population of Romania and that Transylvania always had Romanian majority.

  2. Also, it is a big mistake to keep Hungary as part of NATO, because the Hungarian government continues to make TERRIRORIAL CLAIMS on Romania, Slovakia and Croatia. This is unacceptable in this day and age.

  3. Just a little clarification Kings and Generals! The Hajduks of Hungary formed the army of István Bocskai, or in English Stephen Bocskai, a Hungarian nobleman, also of Hungarian origin, organized from cattle herders, and they were never of Serbian origin! The namesakes of several settlements of a Hungarian county and of the county itself(Hajdú-Bihar county) can be honored in the Hajdús, as patriots who became warrior cattle herders and fought heroically against the Turkish invaders!

  5. Romania is European heartland. It is sad enough, that today, non-European Central Asian Turks, occupy Anatolia, which was originally European heartland. Anatolia was home to several Indo-Aryan tribes, and kingdoms: Phrygians, Ionians, Thracians, Lydians, Kartvelians, Abkhazians, Circassians, Armenians, and of course, the ancient Hittites. All of these Aryans tribes are closely related to the Greeks, the highest civilization of ancient times.

  7. I'm tingling with anticipation for the following year, 1601 is the siege of Kanije in Hungary, one of the few instances where the Ottomans found themselves besieged rather than being the besiegers and managed to rout an Austrian army nearly 7 times larger than their own thanks to a Bosnian coffee crackhead named Tıryaki Hasan Pasha who brilliantly lead the defense and suicidal yet successful charge against the Austrians towards the end.

  8. It is impossible to survive… to fight against the Ottomans, the Austrians, the Poles at the same time, they were afraid that if the 3 Romanian countries wanted to unite, they would form a force… instead of the Poles mobilizing the army against the Russians, the Ottomans way … they took care of the Romanians … instead of taking care of the Russians, who will become a danger later

  13. What i learned from this channel so far:
    1. Don't chase Turkic armies, they feign retreat and will make you shit your pee.
    2. Don't go in to mountain passes, Bulgarian ambushers will make your scull a drinking cup.
    3. Don't be a Byzantine enemy, nobility or basilius. You will end up puking your guts or with a dagger in your back.
    4. Don't let your soldiers loot, by the sight of gold coins they become morons.
    5. Don't trust a vassal… like ever… you will be betrayed!
    6. If you hear throat singing… you are done! say your prayers.
    7. Never become a cocky French crusader fighting in the Holy lands or the Balkans.

  14. Once, by agreement with the German Emperor, the Nalyvaiko's Cossacks attacked the large Turkish fortress Tyagin (modern Bendery). The Cossacks occupied the city, but failed to take possession of the citadel, then the ruler Aaron the Tyrant attacked the Nalivaiko's troops at the head of a seven thousandth army of Turks, Moldavians and Tatars. The Cossacks had to retreat. The leader did not expect hostile actions from the Moldavian ruler, with whom he had secret connections before, and Aaron assured him that he was ready to go over to the side of the Christian troops. It was, no doubt, a stab in the back, and on the banks of the Dniester, Severyn Nalyvaiko swore to take revenge on the Moldavian at all costs.
On October 29, 1594, a united Cossack army of about 12,000 people under forty banners (registered Cossacks led by Jan Orishovskiy, Zaporizhian Cossacks led by Grigory Loboda and detachments of Severin Nalivaiko) crossed the Dniester in the Soroka region and moved to Tsetsora. Aaron was defeated three times in skirmishes and fled in disgrace. The Cossacks occupied Tetsora and the capital of the state, the city of Iași.

  15. "The scholarly community specializing in Ottoman studies has of late virtually banned the use of "Turkey", "Turks", and "Turkish" from acceptable vocabulary, declaring "Ottoman" and its expanded use mandatory and permitting its "Turkish" rival only in linguistic and philological contexts."

  17. Utterly fascinating, 3 empires crashing like waves in 3 smaller borderland empires. What a dangerous time to be alive in those tiny blood soaked lands…you really needed to play your cards well.

  18. Well the events are well presented except the "small" historical fact that Transylvania has never been a "Romanian" pricipality since it was the integral part of the Kingdom of Hungary and after the Ottoman occupation it became the semi-independent Hungarian Principality of Transylvania in 1570.

  19. It seems K&G used a bit much more romanian history perspective than what is considered healthy and not really fond of hungarians. Are romanians the majority of patreon supporters or just personal favouritism?

  20. Excuse me… The title of this video is a bit misleading.
At this age there was no Romania. It came to be in 1859, much later. The territories you call Romanian were the territory of the Hungarian Crown that time, inhabited by Székely people and partly Wlachs (pre-romanians).
And! Hapsburgs had little to do with these struggles. Hunyadi János was in fact the principal enemy of the Austrians since he united much of Hungary under a sovereign Hungarian banner. His son Matthias went to conquer Wienna!
I don't blame the Kings and Generals channel for misleading, but I suggest you should search a bit more for valid historical sources.
