Australia’s defence spending outlook stagnating for ‘at least a decade’

Sky News host James Macpherson says Australian defence spending is in a “holding pattern” setting it stagnant for “at least a decade”.

“Australia’s defence spending is in a quote, holding pattern, and will not improve the nation’s military capabilities for at least a decade,” he said.

“That is according to a new report by The Australian Strategic Policy Institute, which has warned if war were to break out at any time in the next ten years our military would be forced to fight with the force it has today.”

  1. Defence has bigger problems than that. Our son is waiting in a holding squadron untill September 2024 from April for his initial employment training. They don't have more than two trainers for DSI work.

  2. Maybe thats the plan? If our government has been infiltrated by communist spies. They say we're expanding defence but it wont be operational untill we have been taken over and invaded.

  3. Defence spending is window dresssing designed to help Australia look as though we are doing something for it's own defence. In reality, all defence spending ever does is provide an opportunity to find better ways to kill people – there is technology spin-off. WE still buy everything we need from the Yanks.WE nolonger have defence manufacturing in Australia. Thales has to exist for political purposes.

  4. My father was a soldier – he loved John Wayne movies, but he would never march on ANZAC Day, and he was never a member of an RSL. And he would never allow me to accept military training. He did not like being bombed by the Japanese for no reason.

  5. Don’t worry Ukraine will help us out. 😂 our politicians over the last 40 years have worked together to destroy Australia economically, socially and making sure we can’t defend ourselves. The resources we sold to China has made it a superpower. Australia is still a little colony. We have all the iron, the uranium, the educated population, the room to grow, the technology and we are totally fkd because our leaders want to keep us broke, homeless and unable to defend ourselves. We should be ruling the Southern Hemisphere.

  6. Inbred-Albo is a traitor to our nation.
He put China & Noo Zeelund before his own country… he'd do a better job at sucking a gold ball through a garden hose than leading Australia!

  7. With China getting more and more aggressive, in posture and military – it is unconscionable not to prepare for the worst scenario.. Australia is very attractive to other countries for its mining and mineral resources. It is madness on the part of the government failing to sense the urgency of strengthening our defense forces. Save the planet and fail to protect your country from military attack is utter brain collapse.

  8. Kick start a CMF 2.0 ( citizens military force ) grass roots volunteers.
    Based around what we’ve got now . 4×4 , trailers , light aircraft & personal boats .
Don’t need high explosives & machine guns to start basic formations & drawing up strategic defensive positions.
Participants dream up design’s of asymmetrical locally produced weapons / drones . Produce prototypes ect .
It all has to be done anyway. Australia needs a will to fight & that will to fight will make things happen !
