Australia’s defence policy is ‘cosying up to the Americans’

Australia’s current defence policy is “cosying up” to the Americans and hoping they continue to look after us, says The Australian’s Foreign Editor Greg Sheridan.

“We’re the 12th or 13th biggest economy in the world and we’ve got no defence force to speak of,” Mr Sheridan told Sky News host Amanda Stoker.

“This is because the government itself has decided … to do absolutely nothing about building conventional military capabilities.”

  1. Served in the RAN, 1976-86.
Australia has only had two Defence Policies since Federation.
1901-1941: Suck up to the British Empire and hope they protect us.
In 1941, Churchill put the defence of England before that of “The Colonies” so Curtin said “F@#$ you!”
1941-Present: Suck up to the Yanks and hope they protect us.
If we are truly going to be able to protect ourselves we need to integrate our service with those of the US, 20th our weapons systems, ships, aircraft etc designed to fight along side America. That also means allowing a strategic Naval/Air Base in our north. Port Headland would be ideal.

  2. Biggest mistake you can make. As the U.S. does not have to pay for our military. Both Biden and Trump have said so. Again another labor lie.
