AUSTRALIAN TESTING MAHINDRA’S new AUTOMATIC! Roothy gets involved.
A rare glimpse into how a manufacturer tests a new vehicle.
When Mahindra Australia invited me along to see how they test vehicles before releasing them in the market I had to go along. Any excuse to hit the Red Centre any time, but the testing involves old mates of mine and this is pretty much an Australian first. Sure, lots of companies test their vehicles here in the harshest conditions on the planet but for a company to have enough confidence to invite a journalist was a first.
There’s nothing like going bush with instructions to go as hard as you can on the vehicle. The automatic was predictably excellent – being made by Aisan, the same company that makes the Hilux β€˜box – but the way Mahindra have sequenced the changing to the motor’s attributes is beautiful. Check this clip, and a huge thanks to Dan Snare who put this clip together on behalf of mahindra Australia.

  1. Easy to test- just publish all real owners complaints and warranty issues and what day it failed. put it at the front of all dealerships so customers can see before entering the dealership. electronic billboard should do it. that will get the suits to do there job.

  2. I doubt you will read this because you are such a busy bloke, but my name is Terry I met you recently at the Benzina electric scooter launch. As I said on the night, I have a lot of respect for someone trying something a little different from the Toyota or Nissan brigade. I mentioned I had just finished a double crossing of the Simpson desert on our motorbikes with our wife’s steering the 4WD’s. If you get a chance check it out on Jafffa Adventures. Regardless, go well John and keep up the good workπŸ‘πŸ˜Ž

  3. Well on my second Mahindra Ute now.
I will admit I won't be upgrading to a auto as I like to swap cogs.
But will say best value bush ready Ute on the market….dare I say it tougher than a Hilux for sure and will match a cruiser not power wise of course but off road hell yeh
Hell I just used mine to tow 4t back from county Vic to Toowoomba Qld ….yeh yeh I know too much but hell it did it no worry's.
Keep it up mate….but hey could not tell me where to get a set of black sunnys for one ?

  4. It always amazes me how different manufacturers "test in aussie conditions" but every auto 4WD needs an aftermarket transmission cooler if towing even a small trailer anywhere except around town……

  5. Wish we could have em here in the States. Almost everything here is priced way above what you will use the car for. Everything here is mostly set up to transport fat overweight Americans and their families. I'd love something simple and rugged like a Mahindra.

  6. You could buy 2 top spec Mahindras for the price of a Landcruiser 😐 that's insane! I'm seriously considering buying one πŸ€” I'm a big bloke though I hope it caters to the bigger man!

  7. Mahindra engines are bulletproof and Mahindra cars are made to work in extreme heat, cold and rugged terrain. India’s got these situations. M a Mahindra Scorpio user since 2012 and now bought a Thar 4WD in 2023. No problem so far, just normal servicing and stuff
