Australia should be helping the US to ‘build more’ nuclear submarines

Strategic Analysis Australia Director Michael Shoebridge says the best way to get nuclear submarines in Australia, is to help the US “build more”.

Mr Shoebridge told Sky News Australia that the AUKUS submarines are about “military power and security”.

“With Australia, we’ve talked a really big game about Naval shipbuilding since 2017.

“The Navy hasn’t got a single ship for the billions of dollars spent.

“Our actions are not matching our words.”

  1. Really? How about helping us get a true election and jail the fraud imposter that’s in the white house as we speak. We need Trump and he wont win if no one fixes the rigged swamp election ballots. When Trump is president again thats when we’ll use your help building subs and such until then the only thing that will happen with any new military product from America will be purposely given to an enemy of america designed by the democrats and their BS excuses as to why it was sold traded left behind or whatever. Do us a favor put your generosity on hold till the clown in the white house and his family are in prison and Trump is President again! 👍🏻🍷🌹

  2. The only way to do that. Is to ask the U.S. companies that build nuclear submarines – build the facility in Australia. The deal may have to be – Australia has to accept – that we might not be allowed to build the submarines, on our own. Which they are trying to do with the Australian submarine corporation.

However the Australian government could insist – that the companies – build a facility in Australia. That can make nuclear submarines for Australia or the U.S. off the production line in Australia – if extra submarines are required – quickly. And a joint venture company – build the nuclear submarines in Australia.

Ship building – should be halted until a total reassessment is done – of modern naval warfare. Such as long range missiles – drone pods carrying torpedoes. Should Australia go to faster light weight – stealth ships. With smaller crews – highly automated ships – carrying – anti ship – anti submarine – anti missile – anti aircraft missiles. The Swedish Visby class ships have been in operation now for years. And have almost no radar signature. Australia should have done the same thing with – the new Navy fast patrol boats. Looked at carbon fiber construction. A joint project with Sweden to supply two ships – and develop a new design – is where we should be heading. To also add – cruise missiles. We need to look at fast – ships – new designs. Not something someone did 15 years ago. Australia should be asking Sweden for three designs. Small coastal patrol boats – mid size littoral waters ships – then a larger ocean going fast ship design. These ships are much safer. Carbon fiber does not burn like aluminium ships burn. Sweden is doing a re-design of the Visby class ship as of 2023.

Australia needs to look at distance. And distance is time. That's a huge factor. For Australia – with surface ships. The nuclear submarines – are needed for that reason. You can walk faster on land then a diesel submarines can travel underwater. It takes an Australian diesel submarines – weeks to get on Station. A nuclear submarine – less then one week for the same journey.

As for the Australian Air Force – air dominance and long range stealth bombers are also a must buy.

The new BAE Tempest the U.K. is developing is – one project – all western Europe is on board with. And it is a proper 6th generation air dominance aircraft – with stealth capabilities. Everyone with that project knows – this has been a well developed aircraft. Much better then the F-35 program. The Tempest program is gathering a lot of pace.

Given you can track stealth aircraft – it's the fact they can't be targeted is where the technology pays off.

The problem for the F-35 – is a big wide body – short stubby wings with one engine – means it can't turn fast. It is a slow turning jet. So not an air dominance fighter.

The new German KF-51 panrther tank 130mm auto loader gun. Is a game changer. And a much better engine then the Abrams tank – Australia uses. And a much more modern designed tank.

With helicopters. The new Sikorsky S-97 dual rotor – tail pusher helicopter. Flies higher – flies faster – twice as far as a Blackhawk helicopter. Yet is designed to fit into the same hangar space as a Blackhawk.

Australia's military bases be relocated – and redesigned – to provide more protection for equipment and personnel.

You have to look at what are the conditions – are you operating under.

  3. Australia doesn't have the skilled workers required to build a Nuclear Submarine not the technology and the US will certainly not give us any Nuclear Technology except in a sealed module to drop in any leaky sub we could ever make. By the time Australia built a hull it would be life expired.

  4. The builders in Adelaide should be sending workers to the US to get them trained now. This will help raise the number of boats built and allow the workforce to come back and build from day one when everything is ready in Australia. The same with our submariners. Train them on US and British boats now, so they can walk aboard and get to work when the Australian boats are ready.
