Australia doesn’t have a ‘suitable’ ship to send to the Red Sea

Strategic Analysis Australia Director Michael Shoebridge says the real reason Australia didn’t send a ship to the Red Sea is because they don’t have one which was “suitable.”

“We’ve heard all kinds of excuses from the government about why they are not sending a warship,” Mr Shoebridge told Sky News Senior Reporter Caroline Marcus.

“The Government doesn’t want to admit they don’t have a suitable ship to send.

“Even the Iranians are willing to put a decrepit ship there to send a supportive message to the Houthis.”

Australia declined a request from the US to send a warship to the Red Sea to defend the key trade route from missile attacks by Yemen’s Houthis in December – saying their own trade routes, primarily the South China Sea, were a priority.

  1. Since the Jews are so powerful, let them defend themselves. Zion Don loves his master, and will leave Americas friend Australia all alone for China to attack. Zion Don, Trump is a Jewish loving American hating laugh. He's not the president, and for the sake of God, Mr. Dump on America, will never have his jewfish handlers hands on Americas throat ever again.

  2. Why would they want to leave Lebanon when they are part of the Hezbollah paramilitary forces. Better the anti west terrorists stay there and face the consequences, rather than return to Australia and need to be dealt with here sooner or later.

  4. As an American, I have an opportunity to see the world from a different perspective than Australians.

Over the last many decades, it become quite apparent that American allies take advantage of the United States. They spend Less on defense and expect the United States to fill gaps. This is a great example of an alliance with Australia that shows that Australia is incapable of keeping up their side of the bargain as an ally. So exactly why should America continue any type of align with Australia? It seems like a one-way street.

  5. Houthis only stop ships bound for Israel or related to Israel. They are not attacking Australia’s naval interests. Australia is not Israel, however hard Sky News might try to make people believe. Australians are not genociding Palestinians. THIS IS NOT AUSTRALIA’s WAR!

  6. At the end of WWII Australia had the world's 5th largest Navy with 39,650 personnel and over 300 warships. In the 1960s the RAN could still deploy a carrier battle group composed of an aircraft carrier, three large guided missile destroyers, six modern frigates and four Oberon class submarines along with logistics support vessels.

  8. An Island Nation needs to rely on a strong Navy. Apart from relief work, we have a Navy that is not designed to defend this Country or support our Allies. I dare to think this applies to the ADF in all Arms.

  9. Nonsense – there are 3 Hobart class airwarfare destroyers and eight Anzac class frigates to choose from. The issue is really about state of refit and state of readiness.

  10. Well, the 20 nation coalition was a big lie anyway. There's only the US, UK and Canada – the boat from the Seychelles hasn't shown up yet and probably won't. France Italy and Spain which the US said were going to join didn't. The US never issued a list of the 20 countries.
