  1. I feel quite bad for the couple's families. It's gotta be really hard to move on and accept it when they eventually tell them that the man who killed their loved ones has been released but 'don't worry, he's sane now as long as he takes his meds'. However true it may be, to them it has to feel supremely unjust. Lose a loved one to a man and nobody pays for it.

  2. The video on then taking him down is scary, it takes the police a good while to act. They later said they were afraid of hurting the victim…I think we can all agree at that point we'd rather risk our lives being saved than watching the cops do nothing as we're being eaten to death

  3. Good video! Fun fact about LSD addiction: yes, it is possible and it's really devastating, since these sessions often turn your closest loved ones into monsters – literally. A friend of my mother had a boyfriend who would chase her around with a knife because he thought she was a demon. Well, he wouldn't stop taking the stuff and I think he eventually ended up overdosing and destroying his brain completely.

  4. I am sorry to inform you: as a doctor who worked in rehab: you can get addicted to all of those substances. Even LSD. Also psychosis (which is what Austins problem sounds like) is often brought out by excess Cannabis consumption, if you have an increased personal risk for it. Which cannot be tested beforehand. Also i have to say it is a very very sad story. I am in disbelief that this is public knowledge. He was severely ill and i disagree with whatever laws that made it possible for his face and name being all over the internet. Even though i really appreciate your chanel, i think this story should not have been published again. His privacy should be respected.

  5. Simon with some terrible takes…"meds will fix him" Mate, meds can't fix everything and are you going to watch this insane man take his meds everyday to ensure that he does? He deserves to rot in a prison cell for a long time, if not life

edit: found out he is in a mental health facility, which I hope he stays for a very long time, closest thing to Justice these families will get sadly

  6. About the garages, yes when the weather isn’t terrible, my family sits outside in the garage to smoke, chat, work on craft projects, & make plans for the coming days. It’s a 3 car garage, but we don’t park our cars in it.

Also, I worked for several years in a Florida jail. Inmates that were suspected of being mentally ill were sent to the state mental health center for evaluation & treatment, then sent back for trial if deemed competent. It can be a very long process as there is always a waiting list for a bed, & psychiatrists are always in short supply.

  7. After my brother's attempted suicide, mentally I broke. The second I felt I had no control was when I made sure to seek help. While it was tremendously hard for me to admit that I was suffering, it was one of the best decisions I made. My heart hurts that he did not get the help he needed in time before this tragedy.

  8. Sitting outside in an open garage or porch in the evening is common in the American south because of the weather. Older houses can have limited air conditioning and the nights are often significantly cooler than days. There are lots of houses that convert the garage to a living space so they can open the rolling door in the evening for instant cooling. My state is too cold, but a few people in my parents neighborhood do it during the summer. They sit and watch TV or listen to music. Sometimes they set up a mobile fire pit on their driveway and cook snacks just outside the door. It's always a pleasant experience to walk by.

  9. I've encountered this case a few times on various podcasts and videos, and it makes me tear up every time. But I have to say, the others, while still heart-breaking, were more clinical in their approach, the care, sensitivity and respect you guys put in to such a harrowing case without a doubt made this the hardest narration of it.

  10. Listened to this in the podcast form, but I gotta say the victim’s families are right. Looney or not, he is a murderer and deserves nothing less than the death penalty. His being found not guilty is a gross miscarriage of justice.
