AUKUS subs are a 'vital threat' against China's plans to 'dominate'

AUKUS nuclear submarines are a “vital threat” against China’s plans to “dominate” south-east Asia, according to former Howard government minister Peter McGuaran.

“We can choke off the South China Seas with these submarines,” Mr McGuaran told Sky News Australia.

“The Chinese know if we acquire nuclear-powered submarines in conjunction with the American fleet, we can contain them to a far greater extent than they would want.”

  1. Bunch of drongos, spending money "fighting" China is like spending money fighting the mythical "climate change". They're both psyops being played so the atlanticist financial elite can maintain their post war, post cold war hegemony.

  2. AUKUS subs aren’t a vital threat to “China’s desire to dominate”
They are a vital threat to world security, ignoring nuclear proliferation treaties through cooperation with other countries under the guise of military alliances and intelligence sharing . nuclear powered subs can strategically position anywhere in the ocean virtually undetected, meaning they can placed in an enemy country’s doorstep without them knowing. The Virginia Class MILITARY grade nuclear subs which shoot ballistic missiles that can be armed with US nuclear warheads even if Australia claims it doesn’t have and tries to cheat the facts. Do you think the ability to park your nukes anywhere you want to threaten and blackmail a country is justifiable? Australia is trying to lie and cheat their way out of this one to pull the fleece over their neighbors expecting to get their subs without suffering any consequences but no one is foolish to fall for it. Australia is trying to twist it around and hype a imaginary threat to get subs then use Australian media propaganda to justify their illegal acquisition of dangerous weapons.
No amount of lying or twisting the facts will fool anyone. This goes beyond reasonable self defense measures and if Australia proceeds thinking it can cheat its neighbors, it should be prepared to face major consequences. Hopefully Australia realizes the error of its ways, becomes rational minded, and aims to seek the peace and security of the Asia Pacific

  3. If the subs were nuclear armed they may be a deterrent. But a couple subs which could be taken out in a missile strike on their base, who are these people kidding. Total waste of public money.

  4. When the nuclear subs and other military assets start appearing on the scene I think you'll find less of the wolf warrior tone coming from the Chinese. They know they better tread lightly in the future. If they are moaning more than being bellicose as is usual from them then that's a good thing.

  6. China would like to dominate the world of peace and reconciliation.
USA can dominate the world of wars and conflicts.
USA sees wars and conflicts EVERYWHERE as nations in conflict are vulnerable and can be easily dominated.
    Divide and conquer.
USA would greatly influenced its friends to buy more arms and weapons.
USA had greatly increased arm sales to EU and is selling all the gas to EU at double the Russian prices.
USA loved the Ukraine war ……yummy.

  7. Albo will not reveal the cost of these subs other than saying it will be over 0.1% GDP. How much more 5%, 10%?
In these economic times it's very reckless to be spending on such things in order to get kickbacks.
