Sky News Washington Correspondent Anneliese Nielsen says not only does the AUKUS agreement allow Australia access to nuclear submarine technology, but it also “completes” US and British sea power in Asia and “counters the rising navy of China”.
“Right now, only six countries in the world have access to nuclear submarine technology – the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, France, India and crucially, China,” Ms Nielsen said.
Ms Nielsen said the technology is “not usually shared” – making the AUKUS announcement “so significant”.
“This nuclear sub agreement is a significant investment for the United States that will involve not just technology but training, support, and development for years ahead.”
