(Audio Heaven) Modhouse Audio Tungsten SS – Headphone Highlights

My most anticipated headphone of the year is finally here. Words can not accurately describe how humbled and appreciative I am to Ryan for the opportunity to receive an early set of the headphone so that I can have the review ready in time for the official release, nor can they accurately describe how special this headphone is or what is it capable of. The Modhouse Audio Tungsten is a true marvel and overwhelming achievement in the headphone audiophile space, and I can not wait to share my thoughts about it with all of you. I hope you enjoy the video.

  1. So glad to see more Tungsten reviews come in. You made me super impatient about my DS version! How would you compare these to the Susvara? On the amplifier front, could the Mjolnir 3 or a tube amp (Class A 5-6W at 20/50/150/300 ohms) paired with the Bifrost 2/64 drive them at all?

  2. I'm planning on getting this amazing headphone, already mailed Ryan to see if my current system could possibly power properly this headphone. I'm currently running an Aune S17 headphone amp, which is amazing and it currently drives all my headphones really well, he told me that given the specs they could possibly run it well but I might not have enough headroom, so I'm thinking in getting either a topping A70 pro amp and pre-amping it with my aune to get that class A warmth or getting the new fosi audio ZA3 with a 48v power supply and maybe buying some sparkos labs op-amps and also pre-amping it with my aune to get maximum performance, maybe even getting two of them and running them as mono blocks and getting absolute insane performance relatively cheap on these.

  3. Yeah I'll be honest this review just sounds like straight shilling and I like your other videos. Small companies always seem to get way overhyped for what they actually deliver. Definitely waiting to hear from many others.

  4. Great and through review from a real world perspective sir!!! I am looking forward to getting one of these and your suggestion of the FLUX FA10 was a new one for me!! Thanks!! I was on the lookout for a Ferrum Orr, but 16 W of Class A for $800 is too good to pass up in the meantime. I alrady own an IFI Can Pro Signature that sounds AMAZING, but I dont think the 23V will be enough for the Tungsten…

  5. I want to go even more bonkers but on a budget… Double-sided Tungsten, powering each channel separately with dual Fosi Audio ZA3's in monoblock mode, rolling op-amps, dual 48V GaN power supplies, tube preamp and a good DAC – probably R2R, like a Denafrips Enyo. It's definitely going to take a while to save for, but worth it!

  6. Could someone enlighten me, please? Ohm’s law is ohm’s law. You can’t defeat that. You can’t divorce watts (the typical word behind a reviewer’s word “power”) and voltage. Watts, voltage, amps.

I know the Fosi cannot push 15amps at 48v but if it could, we’re talking 720 watts. I know it can’t push that much. But my point is this, why are reviewers saying you don’t need power (watts), you need voltage? Just get an amp that can push 32 watts (stereo) into a 150ohm load. This would typically be around 800-1000 watts into 4ohms. Why 32 watts stereo? It gives you 6db of headroom to the DS version of to the Tungstens. 121db altogether. 105db peaks A-weighted, 115db peaks c-weighted, 6db of headroom.

The cheapest option that comes to mind is a Buckeye Ncx-500 stereo. Or if you want American, a pair of Schiit Tyrs.
