I hope you will enjoy my review of Astronite for the PC. A challenging but fun metroidvania with soulslike elements, that’s short but sweet. I tried to keep it as short as possible, but hopefully you will still get the full picture.
Thanks for watching!

Ugh i really really hate it when you can lose all your currency on death. It's the reason i don't play dark souls and i sigh everytime a sidescroller metroidvania incorporates it into the game. In my opinion going back to the respawn point is punishment enough, and if you really want to do extra punishment do it like grime (loss of kill streak which made you earn more souls) or blasphemous (loss of a part of the mana bar but always reclaimable even after subsequent deaths). This soulslike mechanic only makes the game more stressful and stretches out gametime for completionists. You can call it a skill issue but frankly it's just bad game design
Also good review btw, gonna put this on the backburner untill a deep sale then. Keep up the great reviews!
On another note, will you be doing a rusted moss review? I'm probably not gonna play that since it's a twin stick shooter pixel art anime MV but level design and the grappling looks good. So i'm excited to hear your thoughts
I have this on my wishlist. Better if it's short and good. I saw it first in a indie festival in Spain, where different indie companies presented their creations. Astronite looks like the classic Jetpack on "asteroids" 😄 (Jetpack is an old Spectrum game).
I'm not sure if this is on the switch, but I sure hope so. Looks really fun and challenging. I hate when they take everything upon dieing tho
What a charming game, I really like how smooth it looks and I really love the echo chambers giving a shout out to the older games what a great idea. The boss fights look really creative and fun too, I'm going to add to my wishlist thanks for sharing Joy I hope you are doing well have a great day 😀
Short, good and difficult is definitely my kind of game. I've had this on my radar for some time now. I'll probably be giving it a go in the next weeks!
Thanks for the review 🙂
Definitely waiting for a nice sale, it is on the Steam Wishlist but I might pick it up for Switch, especially if I can get a physical copy for a nice price 🥰
I have thus far put, I think, 7 upcoming games on my Steam Wishlist after watching some of your videos. I like your videos, we share a certain interest in games!
Curious though: In the beginning of the game you don't like the fact that you got familiar with (part of) your gear/weapons/upgrades, even though you later on mention that it is nice that there are additional 'unknown at first' upgrades/items to get. But when you mention the shop, you think it is nice to know that all upgrades/items are already there also indicating their price. I really understand/feel your comment about knowing how much currency you will require for a certain item! 😀 But what makes the difference between these two feelings?
And you mention not liking/preferring to backtrack a certain dead-end due to there not being on option to break some wall. But that's kind of an always recurring thing in most MetroidVania's right?
It happens in Hollow Knight, in both Ori's, Dead Cells etc, even in Super Metroid 🙂 It sharpens your skills in my opinion and you usually only go in such directions once🙃
bought this as a physical cart for my Switch August 2023. Game kept crashing about 10 minutes in. haven't gone back to it – october now. Too bad.
