Yasuke's situation and the whole "retainer =/= samurai" is actually quite easy to debunk if you have some common sense and some insight into Japanese history. You see, people get all caught up in the whole "retainer" thing, but they get baited off of an important well-known fact in Japanese history. Just like Yasuke was employed as a "retainer" acting as sword-bearer to Nobunaga, there was also a certain Kinoshita Toukichirou who was also hired as "retainer" acting as the "sandal-bearer" or Zori-tori, to Nobunaga.
So who is Kinoshita Toukichirou? Starting as a common foot-soldier, Toukichirou as a "retainer" was pretty much just a servant to Nobunaga, responsible for bringing around his sandals. That's it. That was enough to get him called a "retainer". This is why we give no "weight of office" to the word retainer if we're to be genuine about this argument. Yasuke was the servant who carried the sword, while Toukichirou carried the footwear. Also, the main reason Toukichirou got the attention of Nobunaga is said to be the fact that he was short and looked like a monkey, causing Nobunaga to call him by the nickname "Saru" which means monkey in Japanese.
But how does this disprove the idea that Yasuke was a samurai? Well, you see, unlike Yasuke, Toukichirou actually participates in multiple battles across Japanese history. Even post-Nobunaga's death. Toukichirou proves himself to Nobunaga by participating in battle, and eventually achieving various feats. He rises to the status of an actual samurai, getting bestowed lands of his own to govern. This land is where he gets tax from the people which serves as his salary as a samurai. This land is also where the lord/samurai gets to hire their troops whenever there is need to sortie. Yes, you don't just get to hold the title samurai and go around killing people in armor. You hold a position with actual responsibilities, handle economic management, and earn a salary.
One of Toukichirou's feats was the construction of Sunomata Castle (or the One-Night Castle). These exploits eventually causes Toukichirou to rise in rank, and eventually become one of the famed generals who inherited Nobunaga's drive towards unifying Japan. He would later come to be known as Toyotomi Hideyoshi the second "Great Unifier" of Japan and hold several high positions like Imperial Regent of Japan.
And how does all these tie in with Yasuke? Well, think about it. From all points, Toukichirou is the exact opposite of Yasuke. He's a native. He's short enough to be joked around as a monkey. Yet at the same time, the two of them started from servitude status under Nobunaga. Ask yourself why a huge and supposedly strong guy like Yasuke would not have a whole lot of exploits in battle carved directly onto Japanese history if he actually did become a samurai, while Toukichirou was able to? It would only be natural that such a unique existence at the time like Yasuke would be written down the annals of Japanese history if he were indeed such a remarkable figure back then. Also, Yasuke would have had his own governed land from which he took tax from as his salary, managed his own citizens and his own troops. And yet we see none at all documented about it.
The rational reason here would be that it's because he never got past being used as a "token". He was paraded around as a servant so Nobunaga could show off his new "Nanban Curio". And when Nobunaga died, Akechi Mitsuhide–who is believed to have had ties to the West via religious beliefs and conversion at that time, simply sent back Yasuke to his former Westerner masters as a servant once again. There is at least some mentions of Yasuke being sent back, that's for sure. Would you have imagined that? This so-called "first black samurai" was actually co-workers with Toyotomi Hideyoshi. But the people trying to lie to you about Yasuke's status in Japanese history would rather you not realize that. Because the huge contrast between the two would make it easily apparent that no, Yasuke did not become a bona fide samurai. Just like Nobunaga did to him back then, these people in the present are just using him as a "Token" for their own agenda right now. And it's kinda sad IMO.

The game may be really good. We just do not know it yet. I remember GTA 4: "The Ballad Of Gay Tony". Very good DLC + better looking graphics. To all of you. Mind that at these times there were no such things as gay (in modern thinking). Most people were enslaved and had to listen. Main character is black, so he could not even have a girlfriend. People were killed because of being traitors, christians or muslims. Soldiers were checking out who was who + what belief system. This is not funny at all. Serious stuff based of history.

Companies that make DEI right usually don't have DEI consulting grifters. They do it as part of the game in a more organic manner that doesn't feel forced or tokenized or an afterthought to score ESG points. You can have DEI in games, in Ghost of Tsushima you have a woman as part of the story that you can't really say is 'pretty' but she is realistic and works well in that setting. BG3 is probably the wokest game I enjoyed playing and aside from the party being way too horny I have no real complaints, as it lets you create the character you want exactly, and romance anyone you want. It works because the game was designed to give players as much freedom as possible without a choice feeling forced aside from Gale's suckerpunch sex scene which they fixed.
