With special thanks to The Buccaneer, Brough for making one of the most terrible self promotion videos ever seen – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83cu2XYJ8As&list=PLMWipphLLSd_CVFd5k-TZNlMoj-BuCvLL&index=20 sadly it seems that it’s marked as “temporarily closed” and the latest trip advisor reviews are…not good. However if I find myself in the area I shall definitley drop in for a pint

  1. A wonderful aircraft that was only ever supposed to be a stop gap. Some stop gap standing in for the cancelled TSR2 until finally the RAF got Tornado. Still serving into the early 1990's and designating targets for the Tornado in the first gulf war. Later to both designate and strike targets. Outstanding.

  2. The only thing that I am offended by are BLEEPS like that. Particularly bleeps that are mixed in to uncompressed audio, with the all too common result of them occupying the very TIPPY TOP of of the dynamic range in the midst of speech that isn't by Brian Blessed, or was produced during the loudness wars of the '90s music industry. And thus the BLEEP comes through blaring at full blast, blowing out the ear drums of any of us unfortunate enough to have been using headphones. Rest in pieces, my ears, you will be missed. 🙁

So, please please please don't do that to us again or at least attenuate the levels of any sudden audio samples. It doesn't need to be loud to replace whatever it replaced in digital production….

  3. I lost it at "perimenopausal panic"; I know the feeling well 😂😂😂😂😂 I would become a patreon if you post a cover of The Divine Comedy's cover of Noel Coward's 'Marvellous Party '. While doing a sexy dance ❤❤❤

  4. The RAF gave the Bucaneer a decent armament compared to the SAAB Strike Viggen.
That aircraft was so over budget they could not afford to buy proper weapons for it.

Sweden developed its own Bullpup class missile the RB05.But it used extremely dangerous liquid fuel to have a smokeless burn and an advanced radio link to control it.
It was very advanced but sadly still manually guided which in the early 70's was truly terrible.

The air force chief in fact thought it was so bad he wanted to scrap the development project and buy more effective dumb Bombs instead.
Sadly this was not allowed for political reasons which is why the viggen never carried any heavier bombs than 120kg fragmentation bombs.

Oh yes the aircraft got one upgrade in the armament it got the Maverick missile very early in its career because the RB05 was so crap.

The Viggen did get the RBS15 and MBB smart glide cluster bombs in the 1990s.
That was Gripen armament collecting dust in storage because the Gripen was delayed.
As Gripen deliveries started the the upgraded Viggens where being scrapped.

  5. On exercise with the RAF in Scotland in the late '70's, I was told by the crew of a Rapier battery that the Bucc was the only aircraft they couldn't score a kill on. The thing was just too low & too fast – they couldn't track it!

  6. The Buccaneer was an aircraft the RAF never wanted. The RAF originally wanted the TSR-2 which was scapped by the 1964 Labour Government as being too expensive. Instead the American General Dynamics F-111K was ordered, and after $ Millions were spent on it, that too was cancelled. The RAF had to have something, so the cheap sub-sonic Royal Navy Buccaneer was purchased for the RAF. But to be fair the Labour Government were busy cancelling all high-tech projects at that time.
