Arts and Health: A performance and panel with WHO’s Christopher Bailey

Earlier this summer, Lincoln Center in collaboration with Healing Arts, welcomed the World Health Organization’s Arts & Health lead, Christopher Bailey, for an experiential conversation on how the arts can promote health outcomes and well-being. Bailey, a former stage actor trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, performed a signature monologue The Vanishing Point, a vivid and gripping story of his journey into blindness, and what he discovered about perception, empathy, and the healing power of the arts, for individuals and communities.

Following was an engaging panel discussion and conversation with the audience, featuring Gary Padmore, Director of Education at the New York Philharmonic, and Dr. Carlos Rodriguez Perez, Director of Clinical Operations at Kingsboro Psychiatric Hospital. The panel was moderated by esteemed author, researcher, and professor Dr. Nisha Sajnani, founding co-director of the Arts + Health at NYU and chair of the NYU Creative Arts Therapies Consortium.
