Just a quick discussion video going over the current state of the genre, versus what it used to be and something interesting I noticed about Pokemon Like Games.

  1. Being honest I'm getting sick of your whole crusade against the opinions of people on the internet Ed. It feels like you've been posting a lot of videos about your self proclaimed "war" lately and I'm not a fan. I'll just keep ignoring them for the time being but if most of your videos end up being on this topic I'm probably going to see myself out.

  2. I kind like the fact less people call other game pokemon rip off or someting related as clone but is some way i still want to see how the genre will grow more than just a RPG battle or Story Base progression especially in western 3A company other than "FPS or Move like game" i never see they at last make a game how have havy aspect on Tameing, Treat or Raise a pet like creature.

Also can you take a look "Paleo Pines" from italic pig i think there game looks promising and can be example if monster tameing not only battle with monster but also how you raise your pet. hope other indie studio can make same game like that in the future.

  3. Hey Ed, long time lurker, first time "caller." I'm a big fan of monster tamers and the work you do to bring us news on them! Is there any chance that, moving forward, as you put gameplay video on in the background while you narrate, you could put a caption somewhere on screen that gives the title of the game, and possibly the platforms they're available on? I recognized the bulk of the games showcased in this video, but there are still the odd one or two that look interesting that I'm unaware of. Needing to go back and trawl through your impressive library of uploads is very challenging, especially since a lot of them take a list format and only one or two games are shown in the thumbnails. I'm not a video editor, so I don't know how long adding something like that would take, but it would definitely help folks like me that see some interesting gameplay on one of your discussion videos, but don't recognize the game in question.

  4. Ohhh, seems like you hit a nerve with some people. Be careful Ed or you might lose some people fighting your fake "war" you keep taking about appropriately. lol (Even though it's just a metaphor…)

It's nice that more people are pointing out the flaws of placing every monster taming game into the same bucket. Some will always disagree but at lot of these games have aspects that Pokemon as the series currently is will never touch. That only gives them more of a reason to exist and try to get more eyes onto them.

Fighting this "war" isn't about being hostile or really trying to make you like something won't getting people to understand you can play other games. How are you going to change perspective if you don't address it? Anyway, hopefully the games that aren't as Pokemon-Like come out great and shows the other strengths of the genre. They take a bit longer to make but could be well worth it.

  5. As someone who started with the Monster Taming Genre when I was a kid with Fossil Fighters back then I loved it! Fossil Fighters stood out in the Monster Taming Genre I'm glad to see it getting more acceptance as someone who wants to be inspired to make my own Monster Taming Game because I do have ideas. I'm a huge fan of the Genre and seeing YouTubers giving it recognition is a good thing keep it up Ed your doing awesome!

  6. Monster Taming is not more catchy or more memorable, both creature collecting and monster taming sound generic and boring and don't roll off the tongue.

  7. The idea that people are upset that games are being made in the genre is like being upset that more FPS games were made after the original Doom. I'm happy and excited for them all, even if they end up not being the greatest. DOKEV is my current hope for the genre.

  9. Pokemon main games wont appeal me anymore, they got even worse than just being stale, they are going backwards.
In the other hand the indies are saving the genre imo.

  10. I Hope so. This way, gamefreak Will have to wake up and start to listen to their fans. And maybe finally give what the fans ask. Because there Will be competition. I love this war idea.

  11. As the genre gets more respect, I hope Level 5 reconsiders putting back Yokai Watch in the west. I bought Psychic Specters and 3 while the eshop is still up and I really want Yokai Watch 4 on Switch.

  12. Pokemon was great for it's time. I played it so much that I just can't do it anymore. I really like DQMJoker3's formula and feel like that is the pinnacle for this genre. I know a lot of people haven't played it since it was never released in the west, and hacking a 3DS is a learning curve. But i'm telling you, THAT is the best there is. That and of course Monster Sanctuary.

  13. Thanks for sharing all these games Ed and keeping my muse for creating my own game alive. It's in pre-production right now, but I hope to release a proof of concept for fans of the genre sometime while this growth is occuring.

  14. Great video and it’s honestly refreshing to see articles on the media not labeling these games as clones and I was extremely pleased when lockstin called the games Pokémon like instead of clones wish more of the big guys in the Pokémon community does to the genre grow even further

  15. games journalism might be improving in some regards but there's still loads of dumb stuff. IGN in particular in their videos keeps titling them as "X pokemon" and "Y pokemon" like temtem and palworld and it's annoying

  16. I don't understand English perfectly, but I enjoy your channel.

I've loved monsters since I was a kid, and I'm happy to see many monster taming games around the world.

It's good that there are a lot of monsters!

And, I get information on various monster games from your videos. Thank you Ed!

  17. I think its only natural the people would at first see these games as knockoffs and slowly accept them as its own genre.
Remember FPS game were called Doom clones for years.

  18. btw there has been a mobile game out that looks pretty dope and has many kinds of monster taming, atm it's just in chinese and the name of the game is Re Evolve, they made a trailer a while back for the english version but— no more news came out, just letting it here- just in case you didn't know about it

  19. I've always leaned to referring to them as collecting rather than taming games, like Digimon feels closer to a taming game, it's more of a raising game though, before I found this channel I'd always say monster collecting rpg, which is a bit of a mouth full but I've never liked the like/lite suffix names since there's always been a sigma with games in those genres not being close enough to their name sake game, like with Rouge likes or metroidvanias, but I'm also overly padantic, sorry for any typos, just got off work and am getting rinsed off

  20. just wish Pokemon like games would make physical copy of the game and bring them to the west to make some bit more money so far we got Pokemon vs digmon vs bug snacks tem tem but wish tem tem would do offline game mode to even if they rip off clone as long as they lots of stuff to do and have mini games to add them and got trainers to take on over and over and battle towers to get some good lots mosters to get to just to keep us busy in the game would be great to that got Pokemon and digmon to just to keep me busy that I love playing games and love getting out of my 4 walls and go out to the shops to buy my game and do there stuff before going back home to download the game so that why i hopefully they keep making physical copy of games then I don't always have stay home next to my net box all the time if all games did go online only it would suck for me then and if they have cool and cute mosters to get to make me fall in love with this mosters games now how you feel

  21. Does anyone here in this here comments section wanna help me with the design for my own monster game? Currently just looking for peeps to bounce ideas off to ensure I'm not delusional about them (since you can be wedded to your own ideas and not see their flaws) as well as help with narrative and region planning. Reply if you think you have some solid ideas.

Oh and I've started work on this game btw but it's still in the early phases, I can send footage on discord if anyone wants to add me, just reply if so.

  22. Agreed, glad to see other monster taming games getting the attention they deserve.
I really need to invest in one of the ones you mentioned; my monster taming experience is limited to Pokemon and a Spectrobes (anyone else remember Spectrobes). I just can't decide which one to start with, they all look so good in their own ways.
